What would you like to see come back in style?
Should I say that mall bangs should be back in style or did Stranger Things already bring back too many fashions from the dead?
I would say that I wish traditional wood houses were back in style. I spent the day today walking a friend around some of the old houses behind the palace.
It's hot and humid outside but inside a wood house a lot of the humidity and mold and icky sticky stuff is gone. It actually smells good inside a wood house even on a hot sticky day.
The houses we looked at are clay and wood and the walls are simply paper. It's something I wish could come back in style.
some years back, I designed a course on "the physics of traditional Thai houses." It covered some of the points you raise - natural "aircon", insulating materials, quite dark inside unless open the window shutters etc.
The sad thing now, with new materials, architects have completely forgotten how to design homes for this climate! hah... could write a whole essay on crap house building here.
I guess most houses get moldy if they are not designed in the traditional way.
yeah, I saw one like that recently - whole ground floor smelled of mould.
The owners claimed not to notice!
Trad materials are now expensive - wood is expensive and needs care.
I think the deeper problem is the people here think of it as a "style" and seem to have zero understanding of the functions of old designs.
I may have to end up designing and building my own house - getting tired and bored looking for what may not exist - at least not within budget. lol
Where else are birds supposed to nest? What's old is new again. Stranger Things have happened I've heard.
I'm waiting for the 90's to hit with full force. I can't wait to see these bike shorts again haha
This is beautiful... but I'd rather pass on the 90s. George Clooney kind of scares me.
Wood and bamboo houses are so damn beautiful. Back then, our house was made of nature, round timber on foundations Nipa palm for roofing, bamboos on walls and floorings.
We always have natural airconditioned flooring LOL and it makes sound when you walk on it.
Awesome. I can hear the creak in the floor^^
We have all hardwood floors here… natural oak, unstained… they are getting darker and darker with age. We have solid cherry wood cupboards in the kitchen.. they are also getting darker each year. There is nothing like a house built with solid wood finishes. I would eventually like to live in a log cabin but with our cold winters we would need to build a double wall to save on heating and cooling … maybe a double wall of solid square Timbers with R20 insulation between… I would also have a large stone wall fireplace to retain heat from the fire. So many plans for the next house.
I think that is great and spacious and blends with the environment. Looks like some kind of house in the shire. You did great with it. I was expecting to see more of your art around the house, but in a way everything there is art. Our house is a mess and we need to get things organized as the kids are not kids but actually teenagers. Korean houses are more utilitarian. You're woods look really nice. I have a small bamboo forest connected to the university's land, but it cannot compare to the place you are at. We are in the middle of a city of more than 8 million people.
Our house is exactly in the middle of this photo.
Oh… ha ha….. that’s not my house. Just some examples of wood interiors that I like for when I build my Log Cabin some day.
Wow is that your place? It’s awesome
Generally old architecture was way better and more use of herbs as remedies
