Bay bolete - large, healthy and record-breaking

in blurtlife •  3 months ago

Looking at the places where the bolete mushroom sometimes grows, one might wonder if it is not an arboreal fungus. This is because I often find them to a tree growing out of a trunk or even from the tree itself.

My record specimen of the bay bolete

The mushroom is quite common, especially in the fall and late fall. His hat, according to various sources, can be up to 10 cm in diameter, and the record okay is up to 15 cm in diameter.

I was in record size because I just marked a specimen that was over 15 cm in diameter. This is one of the records, the other is that such a large fruiting body was completely healthy.

The young fruiting body is convex when young, becoming flatter over time. The color of the hat is usually brown or dark brown with a dull surface that becomes shiny and slippery after rain.

Of course, the fungus belongs to the species whose hymenophores are tubes, so you can pick it basically without worrying about more poisoning. The tubes are yellowish at first, then olive green, and even brown with age. When damaged, they turn blue or blue, gray-blue.

The leg is very thick, hard and fleshy, with a cylindrical shape. It is full inside and can be up to several cm high when the fungus grows in deep moss, for example.

The hard and fleshy flesh also turns gray or blue when cut and has an exceptionally pleasant mushroom flavor and aroma.

This fungus is best looked for in coniferous forests, in the vicinity of pines and spruces, near old trunks, fallen branches, but also on healthy trees at their base.

It is a very tasty edible mushroom with many uses. It is suitable for drying, for sauces and soups, and for pickling in vinegar.

A little honey fungus appeared, but this particular specimen was exposed to the sun's rays.

They were rather unsuitable for acquisition, but in such beautiful natural circumstances and cool lighting, they were suitable as models for a photo session.
