Early morel
In the spring forest, mushroom life lasts all year round, with some species appearing, others disappearing. The Czech foxtail has a very short life. Its long hollow leg is very flexible but weak. When it becomes too large, it breaks or bends, and thus the mushroom ends its short life. The mushroom is a tasty edible mushroom that is quite common if you know the right places.
True Morel
Smard is a relative of the early morel, and in fact, the other way round, also a very tasty edible mushroom, very popular among mushroom pickers and connoisseurs of unusual flavors. It appears in early spring, right after the thaw, but its life also does not last long and depends on the weather conditions. The fungus needs a lot of moisture and the sun is downright deadly for it.
St. George's mushroom (Cylocybe gambosa)
Popularly known as the spring picnic, the spring caterpillar (Cylocybe gambosa), also edible, appears in May. It has a characteristic, most often snow-white or cream hat with a diameter of up to 10 cm. The surface is smooth and dry. The gills are dense narrow, white in color. The leg is thick, solid in the middle. Although the mushroom is edible, it is not very tasty and is rarely harvested.
Mica cap, Shiny cap
This mushroom species is also an edible early spring mushroom, and its consumption depends on age. Young, bright fruiting bodies are tasty. They are perfect for frying in butter. Although the mushroom is edible, it is recommended not to mix it with alcohol. Older fruiting bodies are darker, they turn even black and turn into goo and are not suitable for culinary purposes. The fungus is quite common and can be found in many places from May to November. It appears in parks and gardens, often in large clumps.
