My Asia Journey Malaysia - Langkawi Island - is it worth visiting?

Dataran Lang i Eagle Square

Our Asia trip finally took us to the island of Langkawi. The island has different opinions, some say that it is one big commercial, others that it is a wonderful place, full of wild nature and beautiful beaches. My observations balanced these two opinions, because there is commerce and there is beautiful nature.

A trip on the island is not complete without a visit to Dataran Lang in Eagle Square. This is where there is a giant eagle, 12 meters high.

The name of the island of Langkawi takes its name from the red-backed eagle, which is the symbol of the island. The name Langkawi is a combination of two words: "helang" which means eagle and "Kawi" which means marble.

The imposing 12-meter eagle statue with a red back stands on a star-shaped platform. The statue is best viewed in the evening, when it is beautifully illuminated and when it is a bit cooler.

This obligatory point of the program is highly recommendable, and it is worth stopping at this monument for a few moments.

Our place of stay is Hotel -T Garden opposite Pulau Tepor Island, close to Cenang Beach.

I have to admit that Cenang reminds me a bit of central Bali. Lots of lush greenery, beautiful views and a very nice beach.

Coral Garden – Pulau Payar

The coastal waters of the island are clean, but not clear enough to enjoy the underwater views. To see the beautiful underwater world, you need to swim about 30 kilometers, for example to the island of Pulau Payar.

Pulau Payar Marine Park has a diving center that organizes trips for both experienced divers and snorkelers.

Both the island of Payar and Kaca, or Sengatang are surrounded by crystal clear water allowing for pleasant diving.

There is also a beautiful Coral Park in this area. I must admit that I have dived in many places in the world, including Egypt in Blue Hol, or around the island of Sipidan in Borneo, but I have not seen such a wealth of corals yet.

You don't have to worry about good underwater photos. If you do not have the right equipment, the underwater tour leaders will do the underwater shots for a few dollars.
On the reef, you can see most of the 50 varieties of soft and hard corals in the park, and all the pleasure takes place already at a depth of about 5 meters.

This is another commercial event, but if someone likes to dive or snorkel, this point of the program should be included

Underwater World Langkawi

We literally stopped at this place for a moment because it is not worth seeing. After the snorkeling experience, this place turned out to be a waste of time and money. Unfortunately, the heyday is already behind him, and there are better parks of this type in Europe, for example in Wrocław.

I do not recommend this commercial destination.
