Russian thoughtlessness in two outbreaks
It was built by the Ligęza family in the mid-15th century. It did not resist the Swedish deluge and was destroyed. In the nineteenth century, it was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style. The castle was in the possession of a large collection of books, which was several centuries old, unfortunately after the war the Russians burned it down, lighting up two huge fires with the book collection.
In 1967, the castle burnt down, only the tower, outbuildings and residual details of Renaissance and Neo-Gothic architecture have survived. In the 1980s, however, it was renovated and now serves as a hotel and restaurant for tourists.
