A brief history of the castle
The Royal Castle in Chęciny, probably at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It was built on a hill that is 367 m above sea level. The construction was initiated by the king of Poland and Bohemia - Wacław II.
The castle consists of two parts. The older one, i.e. the upper one, is located between two towers, the younger one with a large hatch gate and a four-sided tower which was built much later, in the 15th century. You entered the castle through a drawbridge protected by a metal gate.
The lower part of the castle has a well carved in the rock to a depth of 100. It probably had an underground connection with the church in Karczówka and was used for evacuation during the siege of the castle.
Over the years, the castle experienced a series of sieges. It suffered most during the Swedish Deluge. After the Third Partition of Poland, the castle fell into ruin. Only after World War II, thorough renovation works began.
