Sintra as well as the whole Serra de Sintra area are a varied and beautiful region, which is also often visited by tourists.
However, even here there are unknown attractions, which are hidden from the tourists eyes.

Since the beginning of records, Sintra has been considered a region shrouded in mysticism. This mythical atmosphere permeates the steep slopes and even the air.

Just north of Estoril and surrounded by the Sierra de Sintra, it is a place of lush forests and tranquil ponds nourished by the delicate (and sometimes rough) touch of nature. One senses that there is a greater, spiritual force at work in these hills. Their legends have been passed down orally for generations and have survived since the time of the Moors - and perhaps even before.

The Temple of the Moon

One of the most famous stories of how Sintra got its name comes from the time of the Roman Empire. There, the Sintra Sierra was called Mons Lunae (Temple of the Moon). In honor of the Roman Emperor Octavianus Augustus II, the inhabitants built a temple, but after its completion it was rejected by Rome for unknown reasons. So the inhabitants consecrated the temple to the moon, Cinthia. This is where the name "Sintra" comes from.

The Tomb of the Two Brothers

Another myth says that a Moorish girl was spared by the army of the Reconquistador and first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques. Her beauty was so formidable that she was courted by many men, including two brothers who both fell in love with her.

One night, the two brothers arrived at the girl's window at the same time. Full of jealousy to see the other there, one of them drew his sword and shed his brother's blood. At the sight of the fallen irmão, he thrust the sword into his own stomach, ending his own life as well.

The Legend of the Yellow Rock

In a remote part of Sintra, there is a large stone ledge that rises from the ground in a very strange way. Under this rock, it is said, lies a treasure that will belong to whoever can knock the rock over with an egg. Sounds fun, doesn't it?
This legend goes like this: An elderly lady who wanted the treasure armed herself with as many eggs as she could and approached the rock. With all her might, she threw one egg after another and laid siege to the geological formation, which, however, could not withstand the attack until she ran out of eggs. Legend has it that the yellow moss that grows on the rock to this day comes from the woman's eggs, which, just like her dreams of treasure, shattered on the yellow rock.

Sintra assim como toda a zona da Serra de Sintra são uma região variada e bonita, que também é frequentemente visitada por turistas.
No entanto, mesmo aqui existem atracções desconhecidas, que se escondem dos olhos dos turistas.

Desde o início dos registos, Sintra tem sido considerada uma região envolta em misticismo. Esta atmosfera mítica permeia as encostas íngremes e até o ar.

A norte do Estoril e rodeada pela Serra de Sintra, é um lugar de florestas exuberantes e lagos tranquilos alimentados pelo toque delicado (e por vezes áspero) da natureza. Sente-se que há uma maior força espiritual em acção nestas colinas. As suas lendas foram transmitidas oralmente durante gerações e sobreviveram desde o tempo dos Mouros - e talvez mesmo antes.

O Templo da Lua

Uma das histórias mais famosas de como Sintra recebeu o seu nome vem da época do Império Romano. Ali, a Serra de Sintra chamava-se Mons Lunae (Templo da Lua). Em honra do imperador romano Octavianus Augustus II, os habitantes construíram um templo, mas após a sua conclusão foi rejeitado por Roma por razões desconhecidas. Assim, os habitantes consagraram o templo à Lua, Cinthia. É de aqui que vem o nome "Sintra".

A Tumba dos Dois Irmãos

Outro mito diz que uma rapariga mourisca foi poupada pelo exército do Reconquistador e primeiro rei de Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques. A sua beleza era tão formidável que foi cortejada por muitos homens, incluindo dois irmãos que ambos se apaixonaram por ela.

Uma noite, os dois irmãos chegaram à janela da rapariga ao mesmo tempo. Cheios de ciúmes por verem ali o outro, um deles desembainhou a sua espada e derramou o sangue do seu irmão. À vista do irmão caído, ele empurrou a espada para o seu próprio estômago, terminando também a sua própria vida.

A Lenda da Pedra Amarela

Numa parte remota de Sintra, há uma grande saliência de pedra que se ergue do chão de uma forma muito estranha. Sob esta rocha, diz-se, jaz um tesouro que pertence a quem quer que consiga derrubar a rocha com um ovo. Parece divertido, não é?
Esta lenda diz o seguinte: Uma senhora idosa que queria o tesouro armada com o maior número de ovos que pudesse e aproximou-se da rocha. Com todas as suas forças, ela atirou um ovo atrás do outro e pôs cerco à formação geológica, que, no entanto, não conseguiu resistir ao ataque até ficar sem ovos. Diz a lenda que o musgo amarelo que cresce na rocha até hoje provém dos ovos da mulher, que, tal como os seus sonhos de tesouro, se estilhaçaram na rocha amarela.

Sintra sowie die gesamte Serra de Sintra Gegend sind eine abwechslungsreiche und wunderschöne Region, welche auch gern von Touristen aufgesucht wird.
Doch auch hier gibt es unbekannte Attraktionen, welche dem Touristen verborgen bleiben.

Seit Beginn der Aufzeichnungen gilt Sintra als eine Region, die von Mystik umhüllt ist. Diese mythische Atmosphäre durchdringt die steilen Hänge und sogar die Luft.

Etwas nördlicher von Estoril und von der Sierra de Sintra umgeben, ist es ein Ort mit üppigen Wäldern und ruhigen Teichen, die von der zarten (und manchmal rauen) Berührung der Natur genährt werden. Man spürt, dass in diesen Hügeln eine größere, spirituelle Kraft am Werk ist. Ihre Legenden werden seit Generationen mündlich überliefert und haben seit der Zeit der Mauren - und vielleicht sogar davor - überlebt.

Der Mondtempel

Eine der bekanntesten Geschichten, wie Sintra seinen Namen erhielt, stammt aus der Zeit des Römischen Reiches. Dort wurde die Sintra Sierra Mons Lunae (Mondtempel) genannt. Zu Ehren des römischen Kaisers Octavianus Augustus II. errichteten die Bewohner einen Tempel, der nach seiner Fertigstellung jedoch aus unbekannten Gründen von Rom abgelehnt wurde. So weihten die Bewohner den Tempel dem Mond, der Cinthia. Daher stammt der Name "Sintra".

Das Grabmal der zwei Brüder

Ein anderer Mythos besagt, dass ein maurisches Mädchen von der Armee des Reconquistador und ersten Königs von Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, verschont wurde. Ihre Schönheit war so gewaltig, dass sie von vielen Männern umworben wurde, darunter auch von zwei Brüdern, die sich beide in sie verliebten.

Eines Nachts kamen die beiden Brüder zeitgleich am Fenster des Mädchens an. Voller Eifersucht den anderen dort zu sehen, zückte einer von ihnen sein Schwert und vergoss das Blut seines Bruders. Beim Anblick des gefallenen irmão stieß er sich das Schwert in den Bauch und beendete damit auch sein eigenes Leben.

Die Legende vom Gelben Felsen

In einem abgelegenen Teil von Sintra gibt es einen großen Steinvorsprung, der auf sehr merkwürdige Weise aus dem Boden ragt. Unter diesem Felsen, so heißt es, liegt ein Schatz, der demjenigen gehören wird, der den Felsen mit einem Ei umstoßen kann. Klingt lustig oder?
Diese Legende geht folgendermaßen: Eine ältere Dame, die den Schatz haben wollte, bewaffnete sich mit so vielen Eiern, wie sie konnte, und näherte sich dem Felsen. Mit aller Kraft warf sie ein Ei nach dem anderen und belagerte die geologische Formation, die dem Angriff jedoch nicht standhielt, bis ihr die Eier ausgingen. Die Legende besagt, dass das gelbe Moos, das bis heute auf dem Felsen wächst, von den Eiern der Frau stammt, die genau wie ihre Träume vom Schatz an dem gelben Stein zerschellten.
