Everyone loves a good soft shell taco and a quesedilla. At least that is the deal when you ask me about how I think the average American would respond. Add a margerhita there (regardless of what is in there) and the story is complete.
I like some good ol Mexican food every now and then, but this wasn't really a big deal in our suburbian city for a long time. But since a while (okay maybe two years or more even but I have never noticed them...sssssshhtt) there is this place called El Pastor which is only opened in weekends and truly is a fantastic hangout spot!
Grab a beer with me and let's have a look!
Only since the last couple of years ceviche has become more a thing here, before it wasn't really noticed so much before. For people who are not familiar with ceviche: this is raw fish which is cured in the acid of citrusfruit. So it isn't cooked by heat, but cured by the acid of the juice and because of this you can eat it.
This variation had some Dutch autumn flavors in there. It was the catch of the day, (not sure on which fish this was) but then together with hazelnut and earthy flavours. A really cool and different palet to try out!
Ceviche is a super nice and light starter, but since I was really hungy and needed something to not have my favorite beer Hazy Wonder by Lagunitas have the best of me before the main course already. Hazys are great, but you know...they make you hazy and fast!
So I went for the good ol' quesadilla filled with cheese and pulled chicken which was an awesome combination and a great snack to fill the belly with for a bit. But you know it is just the small enhancement through herbs inside that makes it a different kind of dish compared to just taking a wrap at home and filling it with cheese and putting it in the grill. It is just not the same
Also the soft shell tacos (is this how they are meant to be? Snacksized?) with some quacemole lemon and cilantro on there. Wow I was having some good Mexican vibes at that moment right there.!
Apart from that this place was filled up to the notch with people, which I can understand because they are opened only three nights a week, it didn't feel like that at all. The seatings were cozy and the staff was layed back and very at eased.
Also when I was walking to the restrooms which are upstairs I saw that there this whole addition floor that I didn't notice at first. It turned out El Pastor shares this top floor with the hamburger place next door and this is just where people can chill and have some easy beers with a snack on the side. Isn't that something cool? Sharing the top floor to benefit both companies?
For me this place was a real winner and surely something to head back to when Im crazy some sunny food and cumbria music with it again!
Maybe then I will find out what is coming soon. A dog and a fish? Im confused!
