Good morning all,

Yesterday, was The World Gorilla Day celebration and this is how it was celebrated in Kisoro district, south western part of Uganda.
This special occasion is usually honored every year 24th September with the main intention of promoting conservation of nature andprotecting the few living Gorillas that are amongst the endangered species. The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in partnership with the hotel owners, communities, tour operators and tour guides aroung the national park were all invited and I was representing our company Volcanoes safaris Mount Gahinga Lodge that is adjacent to the park. We distributed food ( beans and posho) to the neighboring communities mostly the Batwa people formally known as the "Pygmies" These people were evicted from this national park in the early 1991 by the government with no compensation since they used to live in as their habitat. The main purpose of evicting them out the forest was to conserve the mountain gorillas and other wildlife to promote tourism.

We donated the food to about 100 families in each side of the park as a way of protecting the wildlife in the park with the bordering communities. People welcomed us with interesting traditional songs and I was amongst the first people to dance, I even don't know how I joined because everything was great and attracting attention of everyone.

We rode around town of Kisoro talking about the Gorilla conservation and later visited another village with the different songs welcoming but also interesting, they were very happy for the food received and promised us to work with us to preserve our close relatives; The Gorillas.

We visited also the pygmies.
We took pupils from the school with us
and they danced together with the pigmies.
We all together had a great day and a lot of fun.
Last year we brought food to them...

Those look like some serious men you are with.

I watched an interesting video about two weeks ago of a man in a forest. An Ape charged at him and he didn't flinch, just began eating leaves and the ape stopped short and then began eating leaves too. I guess he knew he was safe if he didn't panic.

One of the movies I love most is called Instinct, about an anthropologist who ended up living with apes after he was studying them. Hunters came through and murdered many he was living with so he killed some of them before they captured him. He was put in an insane asylum and was awaiting trial for his supposed crimes. A great movie if you can see it.

Oh yes, these guys know well the behaviors of the Gorillas morethan we do, to the extent they can even communicate to them. I am learning too how to do the same, that's why I'm always close to them and be friends. I love wildlife so much, one time you need to come and visit us and I will be happy to meet you @practicalthought

I would love to get to Uganda and walk in the mountains and see some of the majestic animals one day. Good on you and the rest of the team there for helping to protect them and making sure it is a benefit to those people who do also.
