We are used to maps, schedules, plans and timetables.
As long as we follow them, we don't even notice if we're going in the wrong direction, or if we're off course, we can comfort ourselves that we're not too far off course.
So, when we find ourselves without a map in our hands, we become particularly confused, disoriented and scared.
So we wait, afraid to make new decisions, to try new routes, and to try new directions. "I know I should get out of this phase," we would say to ourselves, "I know I should find a way to go somewhere new. But I wish someone would give me a list of ways to do that so I could start doing it."
Actually, our question is.
We always insist that it is not enough to see the next step; we must see the whole path before we can move forward with confidence. And so we always trap ourselves in this insistence.
Moving forward becomes especially difficult for those who don't like to lose control.
Because we don't like the feeling of the unknown, we simply stay where we are because we are too insecure to take any action or make any awakening for fear that we will make a mistake as a result.
We don't have a map to guide us as we go through the changes and move forward - we just know how the step should be taken, so we take the step and wait.
Something clear emerges within us and it guides us on to the next step. And when we get to the next step, we continue to wait again. Maybe at some point, something or someone in our life will help us discover what to do next.
We just move forward with our intuition little by little, step by step. In the process, the map becomes a living, breathing thing, rather than the rigid, set blueprint we once blindly followed.
