I started my job as a waitress with enthusiasm. I memorised the whole menu in one day, I speak perfect English (better than 99% of people here), I'm well organised and fast. Many customers praise my cheerful service - sometimes even with a little "thank you". But, what do I get? A decrease in my pay!
The problem with managers is that they feel the need to manage. This means trying to impress the people above them, the owners, and shitting on the workers down below. The deeply useless manager can't tell the difference between a good worker and a bad worker. They can't tell the difference between the people worth keeping from those that aren't.
I think I understand now why most adults are so miserable. Not that their jobs are hard, but their managers are useless or evil, or both. "Hell is other people," especially those who think they can tell you what to do.
The decrease was so pathetic that it wasn't even the drop in value, but it showed that I wasn't being valued. My enthusiasm evaporated, but I finally understood why people are so miserable at work. It is the misery managers!
Brilliant!
And worthwhile experimental psychology project ;-)
You got a pay decrease on the first day? That's very strange. Sounds like the manager is probably miserable too, and misery does love company.
But I think people are miserable because they have been herded into a box, with no way out. We have lost our options, and/or our abilities to see options. So many of us feel trapped. That's pretty depressing, even if you have a really lucrative and easy position. In fact, the easier and more lucrative the position is, the more trapped one might feel.
No it wasn't on the first day but it was like two days after the manager arrived.

...you can always count on the bureaucrats (midwits), to screw everything up...
This world is so sad … shame on them ☹️
Dont lose the sheers and just be you , see what positive you can get from that place . Ask why they lowered your salary ?
It is so amazing.
