Owls have small heads

A few nights ago at Evermore, I attended a bird show that they had. While I was there, I learned that owls actually have a very small neck and head.

The dude in the picture is holding the skull of an owl that is the same size as the live owl. They said that the majority of the skull is the owl's eye sockets and their brains are super tiny.

Now even though owls have super tiny brains, they aren't stupid like other animals with small brains. Owls are pretty much hard wired for survival and everything that their brain processes is to keep them alive and be successful hunters.

It is crazy that this owl has such a tiny little head but it looks so massive. It is a very well insulated bird that can survive some pretty extreme temperatures.

The bird's name is ложка, which I guess is Russian for "spoon". They said they named it that because it sounds cool when said in Russian.
