October 2, 2020: Recovering From Illness; New Month Begins — Ulog No. 7

Life seldom turn out as we plan it!

It had been my intention to get serious with my blog here on Blurt... meaning that I was aiming for daily updates... and then I got ill. Naturally, that wasn't part of the plan!

Illness in the Time of Covid

A week ago yesterday I started feeling a little "off color."

Then I had a particularly bad night's sleep which included several spells of high fever and body aches... and I just felt exhausted. The sickness was also accompanied by a lot of what we might call "gastric distress," meaning that food tasted awful, I completely lost my appetite... while I still had to run to the bathroom far more often than usual.

To complicate matters, my wife and I had committed to be co-host and admins of a large Zoom "Virtual Gathering" over the weekend, which meant I had no time to be ill — I needed to be sharp and able to handle a 12-hour shift as technical support!

Not fun!

"Covid Anxiety" is a Real Thing!"

A couple of weeks ago, I read an interesting article in a major newspaper (New York Times?) talking about some of the new variations of both depression and anxiety that have sprung up with the advent of Covid-19 in our society.

Well, I mean to tell you... when you're lying in bed with quite a few of the symptoms typical of Covid — even though you're pretty sure what you have is NOT Covid — it adds a strange background "worry" I have not previously experienced while feeling sick.

There are little voices in the back of your mind, waking you up at night... "what if it actually IS Covid, and I'm on my way to checking out...?"

Maybe it sounds dramatic or overly histrionic... but the mind is an interesting place!

Now it Has Been Nine Days...

It has now been nine days, and I am pretty much 100% back to normal and healthy again — and I feel very grateful for that!

Based on what I know about myself, I'm still pretty sure I had some form of "slow" food poisoning, or possibly a bout of the "regular" flu, although my recovery seems a little too fast for that. The feeling in my stomach and the pervasive fatigue is more consistent with food poisoning, anyway.

I suppose I will never know, for sure...

And Then, it Became October!

While I was "out of it," we turned over the page to a new month... and it's truly starting to feel like the year is winding down. Andwhat a year this 2020 has been!

I'd like to think that we could be safe to say something like "at least we can rest assured that 2021 won't be any WORSE!" but I have grown quite loath to make any such declarations. Seems the next year can always bring even more chaos and turbulence than the one that went before... so I'm just going to say that it will be nice to be done with this year.

Meanwhile, I guess I'll get back to putting some effort into building my Blurt blog and following. I'd like to think this could be quite successful — I already like the community vibe here!

I sure hope this community does take off and becomes something amazing!

Thanks for reading, and till the next one!

It's good to read here from an well known Steemian like you. You want to know how my life has been going? My life runs like yours. There are ups and downs and ups and downs. Life as usual. But in my year 2020 the things went really calm, healthy and good. I hope it will go on in this way.
We all know when something is worse, it can come much more worse.
I wish you all the best.
