Diamond is the strongest and toughest gem stone formed from carbon under pressure. How can something so valuable, beautiful and expensive come from pressure?
Putting the scientific explanation aside, two results are expected when pressure is placed on any object or living thing; either it shatters or it becomes resistance.
There is something quite special, if not heroic, about someone who performs well when the stakes are high and the time is short. We admire the doctor who springs to action and rescues a patient whose vital signs are deteriorating rapidly.
We honor the fireman who is able to maintain a high level of focus though flames and smoke threaten to consume him alive. The ability to handle pressure is often the gauge which separates the extraordinary from the mediocre.
Now, what are the pressures in your life? Is it the stress in the workplace? is it your academic stress? Could it be your various unsatisfied needs?
Work, school, daily life etc all come with their various forms of pressure. It could be physical or psychological depending on how you want to describe them.
Physical pressure can easily be taken care of if you can take off the load placed on you but we can't say the same with psychological pressure.
Psychological pressures are the load on your mind, you can't see them but you can feel them eating you up in bits. It can only be taken care of if the cause of the pressure is remedied.
Realistically, a father who hasn't paid the child's schoolfee will barely get some sleep, various thoughts on how to remedy the situation will come into mind.
All this thinking though done by the brain will reside in the mind and will keep reflecting in intervals. Now, this is a clear case of psychological pressure. This pressure will only go away when the child's fee is paid.
Now, how do you want the outcome of the pressure placed on you to be? Will you rather shatter and remain or even in a worst state than you are now or will you absorb the pressures, mould yourself and come out shining brilliantly like a diamond?
Just like rain and sunshine are inevitable, pressure in life is also inevitable. They must come, you can't avoid it and you shouldn't try to run away from it.
Just like the thermometer measures temperature, pressure on you measures your strength, your will and how tough your fighting and never-give-up spirit is.
Become a diamond today, let that stress at work mould and transform you to a CEO, let that academic stress bring out the best in you and transform you into a graduate, let those life pressures annoy you and get you to do the things you thought you couldn't do.
When a mother is giving birth to her baby, the pressure brings excruciating pain. However, what enables a mother to endure the effects of the pressure is the fact that her heart is fixed on the outcome produced by the pressure. Therein lies the great secret to performing well under pressure.
A living testimony who absorbed pressure and transformed into a diamond is Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise, the star of Top Gun and Mission Impossible is beloved for his talent and looks worldwide, but as a kid, he wasn’t so appreciated.
Cruise’s childhood was spent on the move, as his father constantly uprooted the family to find a new source of work and support the family.
As a result, he was always establishing himself over and over again at new schools: “I was always the new kid with the wrong shoes, the wrong accent. I didn’t have the friend to share things with and confide in.”
And at each school, he faced the fresh experience over and over again. He was small for his age and easily pushed around. Eventually, he learned to stand up for himself, but at every new school, he had to fight over and over again.
“Your heart’s pounding, you sweat, and you feel like you’re going to vomit. I’m not the biggest guy, I never liked hitting someone, but I know if I don’t hit that guy hard he’s going to pick on me all year. I go, ‘You better fight.’ I just laid it down. I don’t like bullies.”
Cruise found strength and inspiration in his mother, who he says, “rose to the occasion,” supporting the family on her own with three jobs. Once seeing her success, Cruise turned a corner, deciding, “I’m going to create, for myself, who I am, not what other people say I should be.”
If pressure can transform a mere carbon into a valuable, very expensive and well sought-after gem stone, then your pressures can also transform the weak and deficient you into the strong and well supplemented version of you.
