According to a study by the British Red Cross, millions of people in the UK suffer from loneliness or social isolation.
Of the people on whom the study was conducted, about 4,000 adults said they had no close friends.
Another third say they often feel lonely because there is no one to talk to.
Although many believe that things like loneliness actually affect older people, this study says that young adults also experience this type of problem now.
Hazel says he hasn't been able to make friends for at least three years since he moved to a new area.
Growing up in Birmingham when she was only twenty, the young woman moved to another area where her husband lived.
"A lot of people have told me it's easy to make friends but I've actually fought a lot."
"I've always found it difficult. I had a lot of problems as a child. I wasn't really like my siblings and I didn't learn much about socializing," he said.
Hazel said she thinks that in some people these things actually happen naturally and some people have to struggle.
Hazel talks to her husband about things. But there was no solution.
"It became harder to trust people. When you start losing personal relationships, you actually start to lose confidence."
He was always in a state of anxiety but never went to the doctor.
Later, however, when she became pregnant, the situation began to change.
For Hazel, motherhood has helped her break the cycle of loneliness.
Again Simona Varaniot when she moved from Lithuania to Belfast and had a good first six months.
"This was my first visit to a country. I thought I'd come and go home in a few weeks. I liked the thing."
