Plastic pellets from the burned "Pearl" container ship

I think currently we are going through the largest beach pollution recorded in Sri Lankan history. It's true that all this happened after an accident. But according to the latest's findings it's very clear that reason for this is poor management of Sri Lankan authorities. Anyway now it's too late. It's time to work on this and reduce the effect as much as possible.

According to the records , around 30 containers which contains different chemicals and plastics are have fallen in to the sea and now they are reaching beaches all around the island. Today morning I found some images of Weligama and Matara beach too. Which are beaches located very far away from the location where accident took place. So it can prove how serious the situation is.

Millions of plastic particles are already added to the sea. It will take millions of years to recover the damage. This will affect the fishery industry and tourism industry of sri lanka very badly.
Authorities are more worried about millions of polyethylene pellets washing up on beaches and threatening fish-breeding shallow waters. The affected seafront is known for its crabs and jumbo prawns as well as its tourist beaches.
"This is probably the worst beach pollution in our history," said Dharshani Lahandapura, head of Sri Lanka's Marine Environment and Protection Authority

Let's hope government will consider this a serious problem and take necessary actions as soon as possible.
Have a nice day.. !
