Function of University Teacher
Working as a university lecturer is not a general occupation which covers a certain work load. There is a massive responsibility associated with the position as a university teacher. The main role of a university teacher is to address the primary educational goals of the university. It's a responsibility of the academic member to provide the required knowledge and assist the students in their learning process. The teaching role is the most important role of an academic member. It's not only conducting lecturers, conducting tutorials or practical’s or conducting researches for a particular subject area. A university teacher has to play different roles within the university. A university lecturer has to act roles such as a teacher, researcher and research supervisor, planner and manager, administrator, counselor, consultant /community supporter, subject coordinator etc.
Let's consider the workload, a university lecturer has to cover as a summary
• Delivers lectures (Preparing lecture notes, preparing tutorials, arrange laboratory session, assessment procedures)
• Exam responsibilities (Paper preparation, Paper moderation, Paper marking, Examination responsibilities)
• Consult students on academic related matters / find solutions for their academic related matter or concerns
• Department / Faculty administrative responsibilities
• Supervise research groups, project groups
• Curriculum preparation, curriculum revision, academic planning
• Conduct research
According to my point of view, a university academic member must be an all-rounder. He/She should have many skills to perform all these responsibilities and duties
