Mythology

According to the Locals, this crocodile has been around this temple since the year 1945 which came as a replacement of another Vegitarian Crocodile which was killed by a British Soldier. This Soldier died the very next day as he was bitten by a snake which was apparently sent by Lord Anantha Padmanabha.(Lord Vishnu)

There's another myth which states that once Saint Vilvamangalam was praying to Krishna(Incarnation of Lord Vishnu). During his prayer's Lord Krishna came in the form a small boy and started disturbing his devotee. Unaware of the fact that this boy is the same lord he is praying to, Vilvamangalam chased him until he disappeared into the Indian Butter Tree which then turned into Anantha Padmanabha idol .The truth was then realized by the saint and he asked forgiveness to his Lord. This Temple is believe to be the Moolam or the place of origin to the Padmanabha Temple* in Trivandram,Kerala and the lord's Deity was believed to be taken to Trivandrum through a cave next to the pond which is now guarded by the Crocodile.

(*Note-Padmanabha Temple in Trivandrum is the Richest Temple of the world after the discovery of the Recent Treasure.)

The Crocodile doesn't even eat the fishes in this pond

My Experience

I visited the temple temple with my sister at noon, It pretty much the right time to witness the crocodile having its daily meal. I asked the priest about the crocodiles whereabouts and he replied to us

"Come, Follow me to the bank of the Pond"

He seemed like the guy who knew he what he was doing, So we obediently did as he said.

Then he asked us to step inside the water.
At this point, We dint really see the crocodile, We looked around and found it no where nearby.
Hence, We Stepped In.(Its My Sisters Feet in the picture)

The Next Very Moment the Priest screams out

"Babiya, Illi Baara amma"

(Meaning "Babiya,Come here My girl" in Kanada)

Water Bubbles and Something Pops Up

It was the Crocodile.

Meet Babiya

The Crocodile starts swimming towards us as the priest moved further towards it with the Plate of Rice and Jaggery in his hand.

What I witnessed next was really surprising, The Priest took a handfull of Rice and jaggery and fed it.

He then looked back and Invited us to feed it a handful of Jaggery-Rice.

Well, I am a Vegetarian Myself and was mighty impressed with that fact that this Croc was Vegan.
Surely, A part of me wanted to take Babiya home, but then a couple of questions crept into my head.

"What if it changes its mind about being vegan?"

"What if today is the end of her vegan diet?"

Besides, At that point, I din't have a Life Insurance, So Stayed back at the bank and watched Babiya finish her meal before she swam back.

Don't Believe what I just said?

Proof, From the History Channel

Well, I dont know about the stories, but I have seen this crocodile eat Jaggery-Rice.
Do tell me, What you think about this Story? Do you Believe it or Not?

Wow this is such an amazing story, who knew animals that are carnivorous could also adapt to being vegan also. Nature is amazing.
