Later, during the Quit India Movement of August 1942, other outstanding qualities of Jayaprakash Narayan came to the fore. When all the senior leaders were arrested, he along with Ram Manohar Lohia and Aruna Asaf Ali took charge of the ongoing movement. However, he too did not stay out of jail for long and soon he was subject to the Defense of India Rules, a protective confinement law that did not require a trial.
