In this present time and age, drug abuse is very common among people especially teenagers and young adults. Here is the paradox; 'people who engage in drug abuse somehow believe that they get some pleasure and heighten intelligence from taking this harmful substances into their body/organs. A drug is not a bad thing to use, what makes a drug sometimes illegal is the abusive use of it. That is why when a drug is abusively used, it is called DRUUG ABUSE, but an abuse is only possible because of addiction.
Drug abuse is the use of any natural herb/medicine/drug in an abnormal way. the abnormal use is what is termed as AbUse.
Drug addiction affects the brain circuitry and behavioral capacity of the human/victim : This is an absolute inability to control the use of drugs. Drugs however are chemical substance but in this context I'll like to say that drugs are chemical substances that changes how your body/organs and mind works.
Addictive qualities maybe enhanced by how good they make a person feel when using them and how bad users feel when they wear off
We could categorize them into prescribed medicines (advised by a health care provider),
over the counter medicines, tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs.
From detailed research done over the years, drugs being abused can be grouped into four main group which are:
1: depressant (achol)
2: stimulants(cocaine)
3:opium related painkillers (heroin and the likes)
4: hallucinogens (lsd)
Drugs, when excessively/abnormally taken causes dependency which further produce drug abusers. But it causes more harm than good as drug abusers depend on drugs to run their daily activities. Without the use of drugs, they suffer the side effects of excessive use of drugs.
Some side effects of drugs abuse are:
loss of appetite
anxiety
brain damage
cardiovascular, kidney and liver disease
withdrawal symptoms (depression, paranoia, hallucinations insomnia)
The likes of nicotine found in cigarettes, Cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and alcohol has the highest potential for abuse and addiction.
Some factors have been linked to the reason for some people's involvement in drugs abuse some of which are Peer pressure, availability and access to drugs, genetic factors and psychiatric problems
There are ways to help victims of drug abuse some of the ways may include;
Encourage them to get help
Look into professional treatment and rehab, also monitor their recovery period
But one of the best treatment is to avoid it so that you don't become a victim.
An adage says, prevention is better than cure.
Please avoid the unauthorized use of drugs, it's dangerous to you as a human.
