📷From ChatGPT to Bard: Comparing Prompt Engineering for Multilingual Medical Consultations | 😎(by @ace108)

There were some recent announcements from Google about their Bard after making it publicly available in more countries. I tried it after getting through their waitlist, and I thought I'd test the prompt engineered with ChatGPT before by extending it a little. I asked it to provide questions from patients or people accompanying patients to consult an ophthalmologist regarding possible cataract-related issues, but this time in a different language. I also added more columns to the prompt, including one for language and sentiment of the question. But first, I tried it with ChatGPT for comparison, and it turned out as expected.

🎶Meanwhile, some music for you to enjoy as you read. This piece is part of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, particularly the first of the 4 violin concertos, called Spring.
🎶让大家继续读的时候,欣赏一点音乐。这件作品是维瓦尔第的“四季”的一部分 - 4小提琴协奏曲中的第一首,名为“春天”。

Google announced that Bard would get a dark mode, but it wasn't available when I tried it. They mentioned that Bard would handle Japanese and Korean, but they didn't specify other languages, including Chinese. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it provided the other languages I asked for, including Singlish (Singaporean English). Additionally, the sentiment column was included and came out fine.

One cool thing I noticed was the option to export the response.
@ace108

I chose the first option to export and created a Google Doc. Personally, I would have preferred it to go into a Google Sheet since my output was in table format.
@ace108

I also tried exporting to Gmail, and it created a draft mail ready for me to enter the recipient's email address. That was pretty cool.
@ace108

I tried the CSV format, but it didn't qualified the text of every column with quotes like ChatGPT did. It's a minor annoyance.
@ace108

However, it provided the JSON format quite well.
@ace108

Unfortunately, when I asked for SQL insert statements, it didn't format them nicely. The SQL statements are in the last column. Another minor annoyance.
@ace108

Yet, at the end, it did provide a SQL statement to create the table. 🤦
@ace108

I decided to check out the other drafts.
@ace108

The second one had what I wanted.
@ace108

So, I exported it to Google Docs.

Summary

In this post, I shared my experiment with Google's Bard, which recently became available in more countries. I compared its performance with ChatGPT by testing prompts related to consulting an ophthalmologist for cataract-related issues. While Bard didn't have the announced dark mode or explicit support for Chinese, it surprised me by providing other languages, including Singlish. I also explored the export options, including Google Docs and Gmail integration, although CSV formatting and SQL insert statements had some minor issues. Despite the annoyances, Bard managed to generate a SQL statement for table creation, and I successfully exported the desired content to Google Docs. Overall, Bard showcased its capabilities and offered some useful features for various applications.
