Tokyo, which faces the sea (Tokyo Bay), has developed by reclaiming the sea. Hibiya Park is also a land that was once a cove and was reclaimed during the Edo period (1603-1867). It is located just outside the Hibiya gate, which is one of the gates of Edo Castle, so it is said that there was a mansion of a daimyo (samurai who have a large territory) during the Edo period.
In the Meiji era (1868-1912), the mansion of the daimyo was demolished and this place became a vacant lot. The construction of government offices for the new government of the Meiji era is planned, and there is still an area called Nagatacho, where important national organizations such as government offices and the Diet Building are concentrated.
However, because of the reclaimed land, the ground was poor and the construction of government offices was abandoned.

The area called Hibiya has an image that is not very noticeable. I suspect that the cause is the "area map". Information displays and commercially available maps tend to be "around Tokyo Station" and "around Ginza Station" centered on major stations.
After visiting these downtown areas, spend a quiet time in the lush Hibiya Park, which may add another memory to your stay in Tokyo.
