Lately, the mobile phone users are flooded with "text scams" which actually works because many people are dumb enough to believe that they won a prize, so all they have to do is to send some money to the scammer in order for their prize to be "processed". My father had been close in believing such a scam after he got targeted. My father is too trusting to strangers and actually entertained the scammer by texting back to him/her. I told my father to not reply anymore because it is just a scam, scamming him for some money. There are many ways that they would scam a person or people by social engineering in Facebook like a cunning way to get your details by answering a sort of game where you would reply with your date of birth, address, etc.

Two of my nieces were called by a scammer and telling them that their parents got into an accident. A few moments before that call, my sister and her husband did went off to some place. The scammer told my nieces to send some money to his payment processor, a local payment processor that is widely used here in my country. It is easy to transfer money to that payment processor because all the scammer will do is to dictate the unwary victim the mobile phone and the invented name that is associated with that local payment processor. Then the intended victim will go to a convenience store together with the money and tell the clerk that they wanted to send some money to that mobile number.

The scammers had won some big money from my two nieces who happened to get some access to their mother's wallet.

And so, that is what they did, then they went home and after a while my sister and his husband arrived and of course both of my nieces told what happened and so they received a good amount of scolding from their parents which is fuming with anger.

Como hace algunos días le dije a mi chica, el mundo no es tan benevolente como para que existan solo personas con buenas intenciones. Las estafas evolucionan junto con la tecnología y en muchas ocasiones las personas más cercanas a nosotros pueden estafarnos.
No existe otra manera más que mantenerse alerta en todo momento para no caer en una estafa.
