My mother is still learning how to use her new Artfone™

I decided to buy my mother a basic phone which is designed for the elderly because we thought that her old basic phone with similar features, but not a flip type of basic phone and brand. It had already suffered a failure about receiving calls from one of the SIM cards that she always uses well that is what we thought of at first. That phone has a history of the volume being somewhat adjusted to "low" and it is a factor that we thought that the phone was broken. I got alarmed after hearing the issue told to me by my mother because she is always expecting important calls from government services i.e. financial support from politicians and I told myself, that problem with my mother's phone should get a solution as soon as possible, hence, I bought her a different Senior citizen's phone. I only asked my sister to take a photo of it instead of me and send the photos to me using the Facebook DM because my six year's old smartphone right now had been dead for a while.

Thanks to our high technology of modern way of communication, it did gave us all a lightning fast of doing something in a cheaper way by just using a basic phone or even better, the smartphone!

It wouldn't be good if my mother is expecting a call and couldn't take the call because the call keeps on dropping although she might receive the call, it often drops automatically and it made me think that there was a failure within the phone's component or two. I forgot in one instance that my mother's friend is calling but when my mother answers the call, my mother's friend says that she could hear my mother, later she called my mother's other SIM card number and that was the point that maybe the phone system has a fault in connection to that odd SIM's failure to get connected in my mother's side of phone call. I got worried because the upcoming dialysis clinic of our town is soon to open so now they contacting my mother through calls to that SIM's number as a contact number she submitted as a line of communication with the assistance of our barrio council between us and the new dialysis clinic. I actually intervened when they are failing to contact my mother, told them to call me instead and I also texted them my own phone number and my mother's other SIM number which oddly have no problem in receiving calls. It is such a great news for us that I was included to be one of the first dialysis patients to get my treatment over there and for free! if God wills it.

Sometimes that phone calls are so important that it could put you in a dangerous situation if you failed to receive or answer a specific call. So it is much better if you have a dependable basic line of communication such as basic phones at least.

Now my family will be saved from the burden of paying the fees that are charged by the hospital which is made worse by the pandemic because we are currently paying 500 PH Pesos from 300 PHPesos. Well they have all their reasons but actually my current dialysis clinic is one of the cheapest with regards to charging extra per dialysis treatment. Other hospitals particularly the tertiary hospitals are far more worse in adding an additional fee for the patients. But as had said, they all have the reasons why. That is why even if the dialysis treatment is now covered by Philhealth, these additional charges just feels like you are not using an health insurance at all and it is quite still a burden particularly among patients with no clear means of earning money.

After the call of the dialysis nurse (I presume) from my town's upcoming opening of their dialysis clinic, it is giving me right now a bigger sigh of relief because the financial ease that it will bring me and my family.

In my opinion it is quite easier to make a home-based business now because of our breakthroughs of modern communication like in Facebook for example. From that platform, you can join your local market place inside your town to sell something that people likes to buy like delicious viand, preserves, or what people would want to eat for example. You can just post it to those groups and then wait for inquiries or potential customers which usually like to order with delivery service for their convenience. You can also agree with other means of payment which my country has a lot of and many people here uses it for their online transactions. Now there is no need to set-up a physical store, apply for business permits and do all the paperwork, etc. just to make a business that you can earn from, you can do it easily if you have something great to offer that people would like like inn my example a very delicious viand or home-cooked meals for that matter.

Thanks to our modern way of communication via the internet, in some platforms out there, are indeed helping many people with a tight budget for a capital is getting a level playing field in terms of making an instant business and making it grow if they play their cards right. It works well if you live in a place where there are a lot of people that could be your potential and repeat customers for your products or services.

Well anyway, regarding my mother's phone, it got delivered yesterday after waiting for about four days or so but it didn't matter for as long as we received it in a good condition. The parcel had originated from China and it seems that it is a popular phone in other regions of the world like Europe. The phone is looking very elegant because it is a flip type of basic phone with a nice color. The phone is indeed targeting the senior citizens because of its bigger buttons, bigger letters and numbers, the screen is bright. There is a dedicated button for writing a message where it makes it directs you to the inbox on top of the "write message" selection. She tells me that she often forget what key to press in order to get to the next stage to accomplish a task. I am sure that it is because of the unfamiliar way now of doing things in her new phone as there are additional buttons in the keypad and the obscured button of the left and right arrows. Now she just needed to have some time to familiarize herself in doing the things that I mentioned.

As of this moment my mother is still practicing how to send a text message and also to make a phone call. She is yet to learn how to delete a message too as well as how to search the inbox where she could read the text messages that will be sent to her. I am more than happy to teach her until she gets the hang of it. But that phone of my mother is much easier to use than her previous Philips brand basic phone because with Philips you will have to push the center button to put you in a selection how to send the message and I too after a while would forget about that thing so I often would choose "options" but there is nothing there but just options to change uppercase, lower case letter, predictive text or similar to that and also the change of language. So a new user will be scratching their heads and must practice quite a bit before mastering the use of a phone that should be very easy to learn without reading the manual first.
