After dawn, fishermen looking for depik fish paddle their canoes away from the edge of Lake Laut Tawar (Lut Tawar), Takengon, Central Aceh. The small canoe drove slowly on the calm water, leaving a small pier by the lake.
The canoe measuring 3x0.5 meters is pedaled without an engine, usually by one or two fishermen. The fishermen wore thick jackets and beanie hats to ward off the extreme cold.
The activity of looking for depik fish has become their livelihood, as well as an activity to care for the culture. The nets are lifted, then the lake fish is transported into a canoe. In June and July, depik fish are in abundance. Slowly, the sun rose from behind the hills to the east of the lake, its light refracted through the water. The fishermen returned to the pier, anchored with the results. The fish are then brought to the market. Wet depik is sold for Rp. 120 thousand per bamboo (1 liter dose), dry ones are sold for Rp. 160 thousand per bamboo.
The lake, which is 17 kilometers long and 5.5 kilometers wide, is located right on the edge of Takengon City, the capital of Central Aceh. Laut Tawar has beautiful views, so it is often used as a tourist destination by local and foreign tourists.
Recording the activities of depik fish hunters is never boring at Lake Lut Tawar, a mainstay tourist area of Central Aceh. The nature is beautiful, charming beyond compare.
