Azaan is the call for prayer for all Muslims spread over the length and breadth of the world
It has a hallowed and melancholic quality and the person making the call is called muezzin. It is full of devotion and meaning and once you hear it, during the five times of the day, the faithful come to pray and seek the blessings and guidance from the Creator.

There is a great reward for making Azaan and standing in the first row of the congregation. Allah is delighted when we say the Azaan and rush to the masjid. It has to be read when praying individually, or with Jamaat, and at home or during a journey. The gist is Allah is the greatest I bear witness that there is no God but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Hurry to the prayer. Hurry to the success.
The Muazzin should stand in a high place so that the voice can travel as far as possible. Every child has a special memory of this and there is a freshness on hearing it. In the morning one wakes up and is ready to bow his head and begin the day with a special devotion.
All the listeners should repeat the text after the Muazzin has finished each part of the Azaan. It is a blessing and let us follow it in word and spirit too.
