Hello friends, today I will discuss with you about the sringiri temple in South India. I hope you like it.

318 km from Bangalore, 104 km from Mangalore, 99 km from Shimoga, 8 km from Chikmagalur, 256 km from Mysore and km 9 km from Udupi, Srenagari in Chikmagalur district is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in South India. Srenageri is well known for Sharad Pitham, the first and foremost of the 4 Pithas founded by the 8th century eminent saint Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Originally a pilgrimage site, it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Karnataka.

Sringeri is located at an altitude of 2789 feet on the banks of the Tunga River, bordered by the Western Ghats. The name Srinagar comes from the nearby hill, Sashring-giri, after the name Srin Srinagar. Haider Ali added Iker to the kingdom of Mysore. Tipu Sultan provided financial support to Sringeri for the reconstruction of the temple.

According to legend, once Adi Shankaracharya was walking along the banks of the river Tunga in Sringeri, he saw a cobra spread its cunt to protect the pregnant bank from the scorching sun. By showing Cobra's kindness to the natural enemy, Shankaracharya felt that Srenagari was truly unique then, so he made Sharda Pith here. Sringeri Sharda Pitham runs many Vedic schools and temples across India. Adi Guru Shankaracharya built four pithas on all four sides of India. They are Mutt of Srenag in the south, Jyoti Mutt near Badrinath (Uttar Chanchal) in the north, Govardhan Mutt near Puri in the east and Kalika Mutt in Dwarka on the west.

Sringeri is also famous for the Vidyashankar Temple built in the 14th century, which is one of the most notable sites in the Vijayanagar style of architecture. This temple is famous for its 12 pillars which are said to be similar to the zodiac. Also, the Shrengeri temple is built according to the concept of astronomy. Channyakeshaba Temple, Sharadamba Temple and Sri Parsnath Jain Tirthankar Temple are other major sites in the region. Interesting places like Adi Shankar Temple, Kere Ajneya Temple, Malayala Brahma Temple, Mallikarjun Temple, Toran Ganapati Temple, Kigga, Sirimne Waterfall, Agumbe, Kudremukh etc.

Sharda Navratri is the main festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and ceremony. During the festival, a large number of pilgrims visit Sringeri.

Mangalore Airport is the nearest airport, which is 111 kilometers away from Srengeri. Udupi Railway Station is the nearest railway station, about 799 km from Srenagari. Buses are available from Bangalore, Chikmagalur, Mangalore, Shimoga and Udupi to reach Sringeri.

The best time to visit Sringeri is from September to March when the peak season is from October to February. It usually takes a whole day to see the places in the classroom.
