hello everyone , how are you all...?
I hope everyone reading here is fine.
Well before i start i apologize in advance if anything writen by me is contrary to something else. I am writing this post after some research about the Govardhan Puja and also after asking about the festival from one of my good friends.
So first of all A very Happy Govardhan Puja to everyone .
So let me share what I learned about the festival from my friend and research work.
Govardhan Puja is celebrated as relief of many lifes that was saved by Lord Krishna from a heavy rainfall.
People who lived in Gokul use to worship the god of rain who was known as Lord Indra. People worshipped him from a very long time in the Gokul.
When Lord Krishna came to know about this he talked to people about not to worship the Lord Indra but to worship Govardhan Parbat or Annakut hill.
The reason he gave was that the Parbat gives them shelter and food and help them to survive in every drastic condition possible.
People respected Lord Krishna alot and so they followed Lord Krishna's word and started worshipping Govardhan Parbat.
Now this thing made Lord Indra very angry as once the people use to worship him only and now everyone started worshipping the Govardhan Parbat.
This anger of Lord Indra made him rain heavily in Gokul. Lord Krishna when came to know about this saved the people using the Govardhan Parbat by lifting it on his little finger.
This is how people of Gokul were saved from the anger of Lord Indra and This is also how Lord Krishna defeated Lord Indra.
Now as many lifes were saved on this day it is from then celebrated as Govardhan puja where people offer homage to Govardhan Parbat.
In maharashtra this day is also celebrated as Bali Pratipada as people believed that a demon king Bali was defeated by Lord Vishnu on this day and sent to Patal Lok.
This is what i know about this festival. anyone who want to tell me more is most welcome to write a comment about the same.
Thank You.
