In Chaitra-Baishakh, in the intense heat of the sun, the canals, beels, ponds and ponds become dry and uniform. The fields and ghats burst into flames. At this time the south-coastal region is a traditional landscape. And fishing in the knee-deep water of these ponds, canals and beels is one of the entertainment of the people. This trend has been going on for hundreds of years, which is still flowing today.

The main trend of the topography of the coastal region of Patuakhali is that at one time most of the ponds, canals and beels in this region were connected with rivers in one way or another. In the rainy season, when the rivers are flooded, the canals, beels and ponds that flow through the village are flooded. The water of the rivers flowed in flocks of native fish pollen fry. The fish has grown in ponds, canals and beels almost all the year round. Which was caught on Chaitra-Baishakh, when all the water would have dried up. In the last few decades, due to the construction of roads with embankments on a large scale, the connection of rivers with ponds, canals and beels has been reduced but not disconnected. As a result, the trend of fishing was not completely lost. Ponds, canals and beels are still one of the sources of fish for the people of the village. Especially when the water dries up in the scorching heat of the sun.

From Chaitra to Baishakh-Jyastha month, fishing is done in the canals, beels, ponds and submerged waters. This continues until new rains come. From the beginning of the rising sun, all the men and women, children and teenagers of the village jumped into the water-pond, canal-bill near the house. The pots, pans, dishes and buckets of the house are used to irrigate the pond. The fishing festival starts only when the water is completely empty. If the size of the pond is large, the bottom has to be divided by multiple earthen dams in the middle. Rejoicing, the people put their hands in the mud of the empty water of ponds, canals and beels and brought one fish after another. Chang, Taki, Ghazal, Puti, Khalsa, Vedi, Kai, Magur, Sing, Tangra and other native species of fish are found in these ponds. Many also fish with saris and towels. The two ends of the towel are pulled into the water from both sides. It matches small fish. The children also went down to catch fish by evading school. To them it is pure entertainment.

Besides fishing in irrigated water, there is also a tendency to fish in Chaitra-Baishakh with shaking nets in this region. Shaking nets are of different sizes. However, shaking nets are mainly used in large canals, ponds and rivers. There is no comparison with the joy of fishing by hand in ponds and small canals. Men and women of the family, children all take part in this joy. This increases the level of happiness. In addition to meeting the needs of the family with pond-dobar fish, many also send it to relatives. This timeless fishing scene can still be seen in any of the coastal villages. This scene is reminiscent of atmospheric Bengal.
