Early life and education
Dharampal never felt in his education. After failing in 5th standard, he broke off from studies and left school and sat at home. Dharampal father was saddened at first by his son giving up studies like this. But later Daramapal father decided to teach them any workmanship or skill so that he could at least be able to stand on his feet.
Dharampal father first sent him to a carpenter to learn woodwork.
And after learning the woodwork there for eights (8) months, Dharampal stopped going there his mind was not happy in that work.
And then his father put him to work in a factory in Chandwal, followed by clothes. When Dharampal age was 15, Dharampal had left many things from clothes to hardware.
And eventually, Dharampal father made him sit at his own shop and then he started learning how to grind pepper and spices there.
And here Dharmapala also started to pursue the chili spice business.
Impact of Partition on Dharampal's life
Everything was going on well that in 1947 the country was partitioned and Sialkot became a part of Pakistan. Riots erupted in Pakistan after partition, in which many Hindus were killed, many shops were looted and many were tortured.
When in such a situation, the feeling of insecurity among the Hindus living there and they had to leave Pakistan overnight.
Dharampal also left the Sialkot to go to India.
When in the train from which they were coming to India, there were dead bodies lying in it.
But somehow he reached Amritsar. When after stopping there one day, after catching the train the other day, and he came to his sister's house in Delhi's Karol Bagh.
Story of making the king of 'Masala King' spices from Tanga Wale
After coming to Delhi, Dharampal had to start from zero again. He used to carry 1500 rupees in pocket from Sialkot. That was his deposit.
Out of that, he bought a tonga and horse for Rs 650 six hundred Fifty and became a tonga one.
He also used to run the Tanga from New Delhi station to Qutub Road and Karol Bagh to Bada Hindu Rao everyday.
But Dharampal was a long time they could not do this work.
After all, he was a businessman. When after running the Tanga for two months, he sold the Tanga or bought a kiosk of wood from the money received, and built a very small shop at Ajmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh.
In the same shop, Dharampal resumed his ancestral business of spices.
Dharampal named his shop Mahashian the Hatti - Sialkot Wale.
Gradually, their hard work started to the bring color. Slowly slowly as soon as people came to know that these are the Diggy Chillies of Sialkot, and they started buying spices at their shop.
The quality of the spices is also Dharampal made by them was so good that people had increased trust in them. His advertisements in newspapers also made his spices popular and his business continued to grow.
And 1968, he opened his spice factory in Delhi.
And after that, their spices started being exported all over India and outside countries.
And now today, his "Mahashian the Hatti" MDH is a very big brand.
He is MD or brand ambassador of MDH.
MDH supplies more than 65 of its products in more than hundred countries of the world. Their top 3 product is - deggi chilli, chaat masala and chana masala.
The total revenue of his company in the year of 2016 was nine hundred twenty four (924) crores.
