Today is Goa Liberation Day. On this day in 1961, India subjugated the beautiful state of Goa (Goa) on the banks of the sea.
But now the thing to think here is that in 1947 our country was free from British rule.
But how did Goa become a part of India in 1961, we are telling you how Goa came on the map of India today.
After independence, Sardar Patel combined all the princely states to form a state.
He wished that Goa also be found in India. But Goa was not found in India.
That is because from 1510 there was colonial rule of the Purtagalis in Goa and Daman and Diu.
After which India carried out military operation under Operation Vijay.
Within 36 hours, Goa became a part of India. For this reason, Goa Liberation Day is celebrated every year on 19 December.
On 30 May 1987, Goa got the status of a separate state.
While Daman and Diu was made a union territory.
Portuguese Goa: The Portuguese captured Velha Goa, that is, Old Goa, and formed their permanent colony after defeating Yusuf Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur in 1510.
In 1843, he declared Panaji as the capital.
The policies of the Portuguese were more liberal than the British.
The elite system of Goa had some special rights from Portugal.
One of them was found in the early 19th century. Under which property tax payers in Goa can vote in the Portuguese Parliament to elect a representative of Goa.
Goa emancipation movement ended the monarchy in Portugal in 1910.
Because of which all the colonial colonies of Portugal felt that they would get the right to self-rule. but that did not happen.
From here, the torch of independence in Goa was lit.
In 1920, Goa started seeking independence under the leadership of Dr. Tristav Brangheja Cunha.
That is why he is also called the father of Goa nationalism.
