In Indian share market we have two major stock exchanges.

The first one is Bombay stock exchange(BSE) and the second one is National stock exchange(NSE). Both are located in Mumbai

Bombay Stock exchange was established in 1875 whereas the National stock exchange was established in 1992.

There are more than 5000 companies listed in Bombay stock exchange and more than 1600 companies listed in National stock exchange.

But it is impossible to know at the same time that how 5000 and 1600 companies are performing, That is why Sensex and Nifty had been made.

Sensex and Nifty are indices, Sensex is the main index of Bombay stock exchange, And Nifty is the main index of National stock exchange.

There are 30 well established and fundamentally strong companies of Bombay stock exchange those are listed in Sensex, And 50 well established and fundamentally strong companies of National stock exchange those are listed in Nifty.

Sensex and Nifty tell us the health of market like if we want to know health of a patient then we would see the health report and blood report of patient.

just like we can know the condition of Indian stock market by the help of Sensex and Nifty, in the same way if we want to know condition of Japanese stock market then we could know condition of Japanese stock market by the help of their main index of Tokyo stock exchange "NIKKEI".

If any company performs very badly which listed in Sensex then the stock exchange would remove that company from the Sensex and they list another well established and fundamentally strong company at the place of that removed company.

So this is a basic thing guys and hope you liked it.
