The elongated, flattened nose of this indigenous inhabitant of the Mexican forests really resembles a miniature shovel, therefore, without further ado, scientists called it the shovel-nosed tree frog (lat. Diaglena spatulata).
Shovel-nosed tree frogs inhabit the dry tropical forests of several states of Mexico, trying to stay close to fresh swamps or slow rivers. Fresh water bodies during the mating period become home to numerous tadpoles, which are born from eggs laid on aquatic plants.
Having matured for independent life, the future spade-nosed tree frogs fall together into the water. Here, protected from predators and provided with food, they prepare to go to land.
