It is unlikely that this unique primate at least once in your life caught your eye. Colobus Kirk (lat.Piliocolobus kirkii) lives only in the south of the island of Zanzibar, and even then there are, according to various estimates, from 1.5 to 3 thousand representatives of the species. The fact is that they reproduce extremely slowly - females give birth at intervals of at least 3.5 years, while only one baby is born. This does nothing to increase the population.
These monkeys are named after their discoverer - Sir John Kirk. They are found in swampy and mangrove areas, as well as in the rainforest. Recently, Kirk's colobuses have been diligently mastering habitats with low vegetation and are becoming more and more accustomed to people. It seems that this is the only way for them to somehow maintain numbers.
Such flocks consist of 4-5 males and a large number of females with their immature offspring. You can distinguish males from females by size: the latter weigh only 8-10 kg, while their gentlemen are 3-4 kg heavier. But the color of both sexes is the same.
