This is my macro shot of the sundew.
I took this photo this summer. I went to hunt for mushrooms at the local marsh and also collected some moss. Imagine my amazement when I returned home, among the bundles of moss sphagnum I found this amazing plant. The plant is a predator. It turned out to be... very small! Its size is hardly more than a dime, and it is much lighter. Absolutely nothing threatening!
I made an experiment: I tried to see how it eats insects. I caught the most common ant (its size was 2-3 mm, the usual simple black ant). I planted it on a leaf of dew, right in the center of its "mouth". the ant ran away. I repeated ... I planted 1 more ant on other leaves, the same one escaped... I repeated this operation until I was bored - with zero effect: the dewdrop had no time to catch poor animals. I don't know what it is, maybe the plant was still very small and weak, maybe it is basically unable to hunt ants (which are the strongest animals on earth!) maybe it would rather eat and digest even smaller mosquitoes... I do not know.
