Scientific name: Nautilus pompilius (common species)

Size: They are about 20 cm in length on average.
There are 6 types of Nautilus in nature. They have remained almost unchanged for 500 million years because they have evolved very little. That is why they have got the status of living fossils. Their bodies are covered with a very nice spiral shell. In 1954, the United States built a nuclear-powered submarine called the USS NAUTILUS to honor the deep-sea creature. The patch of the submarine was designed by Walt Disney Company. Their physical structure is very primitive in nature. Especially the eyes. Their eye structure is pin hole type, very simple. Nautilusas come up from the bottom of the sea to lay their eggs in shallow water. The egg is on the rock that is drowning. It takes 8 to 12 months for the eggs to hatch. Their average lifespan is 20 years. Nautilus is found in the Indo-Pacific region. Lives in the coral reefs at the bottom of the sea. They survive by eating almost all dead marine animals including shrimps and crabs.
