In this video we can see how to remove a Porcupine quills from the mouth of a hunting dog. It is not clearly shown but the way to take off porcupine quills was to twist it while pulling it out because Porcupine quills or spikes which is actually its hair as its protection from predators has barbs and to properly take it off from its deep puncture was to twist it while pulling it out.

Dogs cannot really distinguish safe or dangerous prey which is why it is often victimized by preys who have a natural defense against predators and in this case a Porcupine's quills. So dogs by nature will try to bite a prey what ever it was and will take a beating if it is not agile enough to protect itself.

Sometimes man has the last laugh and has to treat the dig with its injuries. Quills however will cause infection to the dog if it is not removed carefully. Sometimes the dog has to take some antibiotics in order for it to heal faster. But dogs tend to heal faster even without medicines but with the first sign of infection it has to get some treatment to avoid complications.

So the owner of hunting dogs must be aware of the dangers associated with hunting as dogs could often come into some trouble like stumbling upon a prey with special defense mechanisms which a dog can fall into like a porcupine's dreaded barbed quills. The owner must mitigate the situation just to avoid some serious damage to the dogs.

You took the quills off by yourself @dswigle
But taking them off from the dog's mouth really feels satisfying :)

I used a pair of pliers! She was tired and napped and then went back out to find it again.

:( Again.
