Sick Swans Return From "Wildlife Sanctuary" Medical Treatment

in blurtimals •  3 years ago

Today the Sun was out, and felt like the perfect day for some Nature walking in nice weather for a change. When I got to my local Park Lake I noticed that a "Park Official" workman was talking to someone from the "Wildlife Sanctuary" department (which was clearly written on the side of his work van).

I should explain: "That all Swans in the United Kingdom are heavily protected by strict "Government Laws" which protect them from being harmed by "members of the Public". Therefore, all Swans are basically protected by the British Queen ( Queen Elizabeth II ). Any wrong-doing can result in heavy fines or even imprisonment in severe abuse cases, as decided by the UK Courts.

The two guys then proceeded by both walking to the van. Together they carefully removed two Swans from special metal cages in the back of the van. These Swans are very big and heavy, so definitely a "two man" job moving them to the edge of the lake. At this point, the Swans were carefully released (first one Swan, then the other).

I spoke briefly to the guy from the "Wildlife Sanctuary" who told me that these two Swans were noticed to be very lazy and not moving much. So they were taken away for further investigation. Tests were then done, and samples sent to a special Animal Diseases Lab for further analysis. The results showed some kind of virus specifically related to birds and the treatment was successful after a couple of weeks. Apparently this virus is quite common in birds, and not too serious if treated correctly. Keeping them isolated was also important, not to infect the other Wildlife on the lake.

So now there are three "Swan pairs" (six in total) back on the lake once again! Simply awesome to see them all swimming together...

Please enjoy my original Swan photos (below).
