This movie was based in the Second World War, if I remember correctly, it was 1944 -even if it is clear that I am lousy with the historical dates. This movie was made on a true story of a soldier named Desmond Doss. He received an honorary medal for what he did in battle and is the only one of his kind -I'll explain why later in this post.

Desmond is a boy in his early 20s, raised by his parents in the Christian religion "Church Of The Seventh Day". One of the premises of this religion is that they reject any form of aggression, but by the time the Second World War arises, everyone felt with the moral obligation to help in this war, this is how he decided to enlist in the army.

I explain ir now... When Desmond entered the military, the instructor had many conflicts with him because he refused to touch a weapon. The classmates were also upset by his attitude because they thought he would put them in danger only because of a ridiculous unrealistic attitude -according to them. The conflict reached such a level that he is imprisoned and subjected to court martial, for refusing to comply with a direct order from his superior. When asked to explain why he does not give up participating in this war if he does not want to touch a weapon, he explains that all he wants is to save lives in the chaos that war is -more words, fewer words. He wanted to be more than just a soldier, he wanted to be able to have the training necessary to be a paramedic on the battlefront. After all this he was authorized to continue his training without touching a weapon.

For i don't to be the one who tells you the whole movie, I am going to give my opinion on certain moments that were important to me because of what I was able to learn or analyze from them.

It's amazing how people can judge us by the way we defend our ideals, when they try to pigeonhole us within their beliefs, as if they were the only ones that have value. As the film progresses, it was impressive how this simple soldier was trying to put his grain of sand to give that positive touch to the world, which was so needed at the time. Even little by little he was infecting his companions that need for a contact with that protection or spiritual guide, some faith that they would live one more day.

And the words stay graven in My Mind:

That was the phrase that soldier Doss repeated over and over, because when he was saved from the attack and the enemy army considering him dead, he did not flee. Desmond took each soldier he found alive to the edge of the cliff where they had climbed, thus he was lowering each one with a rope so that they could help these men to survive the allied army that was at the base of that cliff in the Okinawa island. Even when his body seemed to reach the limit of physical exhaustion, he prayed to God to give him the strength and courage necessary to save one more man...
