I strongly believe that blockchain based games will be the future of the video game industry and that is why I have invested and tried several blockchain based games.
Most of the games I have decided to invest and play are games developed on my favorite blockchain which is Hive but I have also tried games implemented and developed on WAX and EOS blockchains.
Out of all the games I've tried so far Splinterlands is the game that offers the most reward options to its players and some are very different from each other.
The rewards linked directly to the game are the most well-known and are mainly:
- the token DECs
- chests** (each chest can contain DEC tokens, potions or playing cards (NFT))
- Splintershards (SPS)** tokens
- Tournament prizes** (NFTs, SPS tokens, DEC tokens, and various types of tokens and prizes)
One of the earning possibilities that not all Splinterlands players are aware of, and I'm particularly referring to new players, are the rewards that Splinterlands makes available to players who, in addition to playing the game, publish Splinterlands-related content on the Hive blockchain and promote the Splinterlands game outside of Hive.
Those who publish Splinterlands related content on Hive can earn in addition to HP (Hive Power) and HBD tokens also SPT tokens which are Splintertalk community tokens (https://www.splintertalk.io/) and are second layer tokens of Hive.
SPT tokens are tokens created by the @splinterlands account and are tokens linked to posts on Hive that have:
- as a topic Splinterlands
- as tags: splinterlands and/or spt.
If you've never heard of SPT tokens and want to learn more about how they work, you can read two posts I wrote previously that I hope will be useful to you:
- in the post at the following link I explained what SPT tokens are and their basic operation:
https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/i-token-spt-splintertalk-and - in the post at the following link I have explained all the operations executable with SPT tokens (sale, purchase, staking, transfer):
https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/i-token-spt-are-on-hive
The main topic of this post is the recent update to the Splintertalk community site that has improved the layout and added interesting new features.
Splintertalk.io: New Layout, New Features and New Use Cases for SPT Tokens!
About 5 days ago the Splinterlands team made some interesting changes to the Splintertalk website and the first one is about the layout.
Old Layout
Before the last update the layout of my blog on Splintertalk was very simple (following image) with few features.
At the top and in the middle there were 4 options to display Splinterlands related posts (trending, hot, new, promoted).
In the top right corner there was:
- the pencil symbol to access the text editor
- the logo of my account (in the image below there is the logo of my curation account: @libertygame27)
- other options (wallet,...)
New Layout
The new layout is much more beautiful and functional.
The main options have been moved from the center to the top left, next to the Splintertalk logo and new features have been added.
In the following images you can see all the changes made to the layout of the site.
All the features of the new splintertalk.io website
Now I want to show all the features present on the splintertalks site
Home Page
If you click on the Splintertalk logo you will be directed to the main page: https://www.splintertalk.io/
The main page is divided into three zones:
- in the central zone are displayed the trending posts (Trending Post)
- in the lower left area are displayed the most popular posts (Popular)
- in the lower right area are displayed the recently published posts (Latest)
Light Mode and Night Mode
This is a new feature introduced on Splintertalk.
If you click on the symbol indicated by the arrow in the image above, you can choose between two types of display:
- Light Mode
- Night Mode
The choice between the two views is absolutely subjective and personal.
I prefer the Night Mode view because it puts less strain on my eyes.
Feed
If you click on Feed as indicated by the arrow in the following image you will be directed to the page where only the posts published by the authors you decided to follow are displayed (ordered from the most recent to the oldest).
Explore
If you click Explore you will be directed to https://www.splintertalk.io/trending and can choose to view posts based on four filters:
- Trending
- Hot
- Recent
- Promoted
NFT Marketplace
This is the big news introduced by the Splinterlands team.
From the Splintertalk site it is possible to purchase NFTs related to the Splinterlands game and the purchase is only possible using SPT tokens.
Note: The cards (NFT) present in the NFT section are not like the cards purchasable from the Splinterlands market because they cannot be used in the battles of the Splinterlands game.
For the moment the NFTs that can be purchased from the Splintertalk site have only one use related to collecting and can only be bought and sold.
Secondary and future uses will depend on the will of the Splinterlands developers but for the moment no announcement has been made in this regard.
The NFT Marketplace section of Splintertalk has 7 subsections:
- Home
- Market
- Activities
- Mint
- Collection
- Gallery
- Profile
From the subsection Home you can view the NFTs created and offered for sale divided into:
- Featured NFTs
- Newly Minted
- Recently Sold
From the Market subsection you can search for NFTs to purchase using search filters.
From the Activities subsection you can view the purchases made by all users (in chronological order).
From the sub-section Mint you can sell your creations (NFT) related to Splinterlands.
Note: Not all users are allowed to create and sell NFT on Splintertalk because you must first be included in the whitelist of authorized authors.
If you are interested and want to become a verified author you have to apply.
To submit your application you can click on:
- Update Profile inside the Mint section
- or you can click on the subsection Profile.
You will have to fill in the following form with all the requested data and you will have to wait for the outcome of your application.
I take this occasion to tag my artist friends @silviabeneforti, @astrocreator, @kork75, @carolineschell and @armandosodano who might be interested in this new feature.
From the Collection subsection you can view all the NFTs you have purchased and that are therefore part of your collection.
From the Gallery subsection you can view all the NFTs you have put up for sale.
Proposal
The Proposals section allows you to:
- vote a proposal
- create a proposal
The mechanism is similar to the proposals (DHF) of Hive with the main difference that the payment of the most voted proposals is in SPT token instead of HBD.
At the moment there are no proposals but the possibility to create a proposal is another useful tool to encourage interesting ideas and good projects.
To create a proposal you need to fill out the form that you can see in the following image.
Creating a proposal has a cost of 10000 SPT = 165.1 HIVE (Highest Bid on Hive Engine)
Pool
The Pool section is another interesting new feature introduced within the Splintertalks site that projects Splintertalk and SPT tokens into decentralized finance.
In the SWAP subsection you can quickly convert SPT tokens to SPS tokens and vice versa.
In the Pools subsection you can search and view active pools.
As you can see from the following image the only active pool at the moment is the SPS:SPT pool.
In the Create subsection you can create a new pool (cost: 1000 BEE).
In the Add Liquidity subsection you can add liquidity to the available pools and start earning passively.
In the Remove Liquidity subsection you can choose to remove liquidity previously placed in a pool.
Write and publish a post from Splintertalk
A post to be visible within the Splintertalk community must have one of the following tags: splinterlands and/or spt.
Therefore, it is not mandatory to write and publish a post directly from the splintertalk.io site.
Even if it is not mandatory Splintertalk has its own editor that you can access by clicking on the pen symbol on the top right (following image).
In the following image you can see the editor of Splintertalk website (https://www.splintertalk.io/publish)
I prefer to write my posts using the editor of https://peakd.com/ or the editor of https://ecency.com/ because they provide more features such as the functionality "undo" but write directly from the editor of Splintertalk is still a possibility and a valid alternative.
Voting Power and Downvoting Power
Placing the mouse cursor on the two blue and red lines (below your username) you can see your Voting Power and your Downvoting Power.
Profile, Comments, Replies, Wallet, Settings and Logout
If you click on your account name (top right corner) a drop down menu will open from which you can choose one of the following menu items:
- Profile: allows you to view the main screen of your blog on splintertalk
- Comments: allows you to view all the comments written
- Replies: allows you to view all the comments received on a post or the replies received in response to a comment.
- Wallet: it allows you to visualize the content of your wallet related to the following tokens: SPT, SPT Power, HIVE, HIVE Power, HBD.
- Settings: allows you to modify some settings such as the profile image and other information.
- Logout: allows you to log out of the Splintertalk site.
Trade SPT
If you click on the symbol indicated by the arrow in the following image you can directly access the address: https://tribaldex.com/trade/SPT
From https://tribaldex.com/trade/SPT you can see the graphs related to the value of SPT tokens and you can sell and buy SPT tokens.
New Use Cases for SPT Tokens!
When I created my curation account @libertygame27 (January 7, 2020) with the dual goal of maximizing SPT token accumulation and supporting authors who wrote Splinterlands-related posts, 1 SPT token was worth very little $0.00069 and I had 15720 SPT tokens ($10.98) in my wallet.
At that time, SPT tokens had only two use cases:
- Staking (+ SPT Power = + SPT tokens earnable from curation activity).
- Conversion to HIVE or conversion to other second tier Hive tokens.
Today August 7, 2021 1 SPT token is worth 0.020 HIVE = $0.01574 (Highest Bid on Hive Engine).
In 18 months the SPT token has increased its value by 2181.16%.
This increase in value is due to the growing success of the Splinterlands game but is mainly due to the addition of new use cases.
Today an SPT token has many use cases:
- it can be staked to increase SPT Power
- it can be converted into Hive or other tokens
- Can be used to add liquidity to the SPT:SPS pool.
- can be received SPS tokens** every day (Airdrop in progress - 1 SPT token = 0.25 points)
- can be used to buy NFT from splintertalk.io website
- can be used to vote and create a proposal (funding request for an SPT token project)
- can be used to promote a post within the Splintertalk community
In general, the more use cases a token has, the more its value increases, and that's exactly what happened with the SPT token.
Posting on Hive about Splinterlands has never been as beneficial as it is now, and if you've never written a post about Splinterlands it's time to start! (my advice ;)
Splinterlands = Play 2 Earn!
You're not a Splinterlands player?
Any game that allows the purchase of cards and tokens is never a simple game but is also an investment and should be considered as such.
I am not a financial advisor and if you decide to invest in the game of Splinterlands you do it for your own choice and at your own risk.
Splinterlands is awesome. I’m earning SPT now too…
Congratulations! This post has been upvoted by the @blurtcurator communal account,

Still thinking .. but I need to stop thinking and start doing!
Nice post, thanks for sharing!
