Nigerian wedding is one event that people do not get tired of attending due to the glam and fun that comes with. There are a number of things that make people attend weddings which include food. Some people would not even attend other programs (church, mosque or court) but they will be preparing towards the time the reception will start. I have been like that in a number of occasions as well.
Food is an important aspect of every Nigerian wedding and the Igbo traditional wedding isn't an exception. The food served at Igba Nkwu (Igbo traditional wedding) are some delicacies that guests can't wait to start devouring them. The significance of food is also displayed by the bride when she feeds her husband with palm wine.
A special budget, days of planning and preparation is always dedicated to food in Nigerian weddings. The women in the family may decide to take charge of the cooking or a caterer will be hired to cook under the supervision of some of the women in the family. The supervision is necessary to ensure that all the necessary things are intact and that the caterers do not "cart away" all the food - which can not be absolutely controlled, anyways.

Abacha is one delicacy that must be present at an Igbo traditional wedding. Abacha, that is also known as African salad, is often served as an appetizer even though some people may demand for it as much as they want. It is made from dried cassava and it is very sumptuous.

Ofe onugbu and garri is another delicacy that is always served at an Igbo traditional wedding. Ofe is soup and onugbu is bitter leaf in Igbo language, so, Ofe onugbu is bitter leaf soup. Ofe onugbu is mostly attributed to the Igbos and other tribes often do not want to taste it because they feel it will be very bitter. But, that is not the case, the bitter leaf is thoroughly washed to reduce the bitterness.
