La primera mujer transgénero y que se sometió a una cirugía de reasignación de sexo en 1930.

Interpretada en la película por Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything, 2014) nominado al Oscar como mejor actor. Su magistral interpretación le ha valido elogio de los críticos del cine y su parecido con la verdadera Lili es impresionante, dándole así más realismo a su interpretación.

Lili Elbe nació como Einar Morgens en 1882. Siendo adolescente entra a la Academia de Artes en Copenhague, y ahí conoció a quién sería su esposa Gerda Weneger. Se casaron cuando él tenía 22 años y ella 19 años.

Fueron por años una pareja muy exitosa, que trabajaron como ilustradores, Einar se especializó en pinturas de paisajes y Gerda en ilustrar libros, y revistas de moda, como Vogue o La Vie Parisienne.

Lili Elbe was born Einar Morgens in 1882. As a teenager he entered the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, and there she met who would be his wife Gerda Weneger. They were married when he was 22 and she was 19.

Lili buscó ayuda entre muchos médicos de distintos países y continentes, pero su caso, no estaba escrito en ningún libro de medicina. Ella buscó, investigó, encontró y se arriesgó, con el doctor Marcus Hirschfield.

Hirschfield fundó el Instituto para Investigaciones Sexuales en Berlín, pero con el ascenso del nazismo, la iniciativa fue revertida en 1933. Fue Marcus quien propuso el término de “transexuales” para aquellos individuos que querían convertirse en personas del otro sexo.

Lili sought help from many doctors from different countries and continents, but her case was not written in any medical book. She searched, investigated, found, and took a chance, with Dr. Marcus Hirschfield.

Hirschfield founded the Institute for Sex Research in Berlin, but with the rise of Nazism, the initiative was reversed in 1933. It was Marcus who proposed the term "transsexuals" for those individuals who wanted to become people of the other sex.

Se piensa Lili se sometió al menos en dos años a cinco cirugías, para la convertirse en mujer, se desconoce los procedimientos, pero se cree que las primeras dos operaciones fueron para extirpar los testículos, y luego el pene.
