Flexing My Daughter's Art

Facebook reminded me of an old drawing my daughter gave me:

She was just around 7 years old then and was very affectionate, she'd shower me with hugs and kisses and leave me notes and drawings on my laptop to wish me a nice day... This was her "good morning mama" drawing placed neatly on my work desk. It's pretty raw and unrefined but this little drawing means a lot to me.

Now, she's all grown up. Hugs and kisses and saying "I love you" is CRINGEY for her but she's still my baby girl. She moved on to drawing/painting on her sketch pad:

She recently discovered digital art and requested a drawing tablet last Christmas. We couldn't afford one but fortunately, some kind-hearted people pitched in so she can buy one. Her wish was granted and she's been sketching on her tablet since then. I'm mighty proud of her because I have zero talent in art. Her digital work starts off as lines and lines of sketches which transform into anime-like art. She signs them off with "KAGS", a name she took on which was derived from her favorite character Kageyama from the anime series Haikyu.

As a parent, I try to take interest in what my daughter does and make it a point to get involved with her activities. Getting involved for me means trying to educate myself with the things she enjoys doing so in this case, I asked her to teach me how to draw digitally. I did a sketch of a woman's face (supposedly), but it turned out really awful, I couldn't post it here. We both had a good laugh about our so-called collaboration. It was fun, I told her I'll try to draw with her again so she can teach me more and maybe I'll do a great job then.

So anyway, sometimes I make requests for her to draw my favorite characters like Kenshin Himura and Totoro and she'll happily oblige. She also did some commissioned drawings for special occasions. I think they're pretty cool!

If she's not busy with homework or watching TV with me, she's almost always on her drawing tablet just sketching or practicing to make more refined art. I know I already mentioned I'm proud of her but I'm going to say it again... I'm really proud of my daughter! I pray she'll always have the passion to draw/paint traditionally and digitally. You may find her art on her Instagram.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my daughter's art. I appreciate your time reading this. See y'all on my next blurt! ❤️
