Who says airdrop means free money!
Last weekend I posted about BADGER airdrop.
BADGER was over $6 per coin at that time. So I was expecting somewhere between $125 - $150 from this airdrop. Guess what? I got nada ...the zilch!
Badger DAO airdrop was among the most widely distributed airdrop to the DeFi community and arguably the most complex airdrop I've ever seen. It has based the airdrop on a list of 19 activities. Those who completed at least one of those activities in past were eligible for this airdrop. Minimum coins per activity were 20.
I recollected that I had participated in at least 2 of those viz. Governance voting for Sushiswap and Harvest Finance. So I went to their airdrop claim page and found this:
Seeing this, I wondered what went wrong. I went to Sushiswap governance page to confirm if I actually cast my vote. Surprisingly, I couldn't find any proposal where I cast my vote. All proposals were very recent but I wasn't very active here for last couple of months. But I couldn't find past proposals. And checking each and every proposal for my vote was a lot of effort for me.
So I joined the Badger DAO's Telegram, Twitter and then Discord. Soon I found many people who had a similar issue and despite participating in some activities, they couldn't find their airdrop. I found the dev team's contact person ID on Discord and messaged him. He told me to submit screenshots of the proposals as proof for my votes.
By that time, BADGER prices had fell to $3 and I was expecting it to fall further as more and more airdropped coins come into circulation. So I didn't show much interest in finding proof for my activities.
But yesterday evening, BADGER price was over $10. Seeing that I made up my mind to search for proof. Alhough the claim period was over for 100% claim, 20% penalty will still result in $8 worth per coin. But time was running out for that too.
I checked Snapshot governance page for Sushi, researched about Snapshot and its API Hub to get data for old proposals but with no success. Finally, I learned through Sushiswap Discord that old proposals were at a different Space on Snapshot, named Sushipowah. I also recollected & recognized the sushipowah name and immediately found all old proposals there.
I searched through piles of proposals and took screenshots for my votes on 4 Proposals. I thought that should be more than enough to prove my eligibility.
When I visited BADGER Discord, they have already created a Google Form to resolve similar issues. I filled up the form, attached all screenshot images and submitted. But by the time I submitted, I was in 40% penalty period. But now when I've put all the efforts, whatever I can get would be good!
However, in a discussion on Sushiswap Discord, I found that Badger guys have left out the old proposals and are not going to give airdrop for people like me. Now I don't had energy left to search for FARM governance proposals. I quit!
If you too are in the same shoes as me and still wondering, here is my story for your reference.
Honestly, it was too complicated for me. I wasted quite a few hours on it. It was like I'm "working" to get free money!
Badger developers mentioned that they have decided to better spent working on the product than manually checking everybody's airdrop. Fair enough?!!!
Lesson learned:
Airdrop is what is offered to you because the team consider you to be of value to their community. If you don't get an easy way to claim one, don't go after it!
