turbo tuesday, technology article crunching for today!

in blurtech •  4 years ago

Good morning, how’s your week going so far?

Normally I’d put these together on Thursdays, thirsty Thursday (where by the time we hit Thursday we wanna be getting some hard liquor down us!) but I’m gonna be switching between turbo tuesday and the end of the week as well — depending on how my weeks work out I’m gonna start taking breads differently just to change it up moving into the different seasons now that summer is feeling over and done with!

Here are five technology articles on my radar at the moment and a few personal opinions and inputs on them, feel free to add your own thoughts to the comments! Hopefully if your feeling a little bored or looking for something to investigate or research you can take a look into one of these.

walmart + plus trying to buy tiktok with microsoft?!

Walmart Plus Launches 15th Sept, same day delivery, gas discounts and cashierless checkout & walmart joins microsoft in a bid to buy tiktok

Boom! I did not see that coming ‘at all’ — can you believe that walmart wanna jump in with Microsoft to buy tiktok? Maybe Microsoft just wanna split it down the middle, I mean it makes sense from walmarts perspective to buy into that ecosystem, wherever they can get the next generation of potential customers they are gonna drop some of that profit in that direction, kinda shows you where the data ‘relationships’ are, obviously a need right now with the current US presidency to have some level of control over the platform.

As for the walmart+ makes total sense with the recent acquires for the ‘delivery’ market with place with uber eats and such like buying up competing products, that next day or same day delivery is paramount to their internet delivery/startup experiences. I’m sure ‘flippers’ and the ‘mercari’ brigade are gonna probably feel real easy about dropping a hundred for a years worth of delivery of products that get reduced.

since bosch brought us the pedal hub, things are evolving fast!

Shimano boosts ebike power with brand-new DU-EP800 motor - BikeRadar

Annoys me a little bit that I got suckered a little bit into the early wave of electric transportation. I guess I couldn’t be patient and without actually getting into the first wave then maybe the second wave and better kit would never come. I guess it’s about if you have the resources at the time right?

Either way, the next-generation of electric transportation is here and boy is it coming fast and faster, we have finally got to the phase where companies are actually worrying about the build quality and the weight component of such electrification devices. I think one of the major issues was the weight of the first gen bikes when the assist power was depleted, most of them were not even bikes without it. Just too damn heavy.

Not only the weight reduction but with Bosch bringing their all in one hub unit in the pedal unit, as the controller, no more wires and sensors on the bike frame but all in one really pushed everything forward — great to see Shimano getting in on that action and shaving off weight here and there, that’s good for the ecosystem, the new bikes are exactly what we should have always had, can’t wait to get a new one.

crypto frenzy starting to pick up again

Cryptocurrency Frenzy’s Newest Phase Sees Porkchop, Whale Coins Surging - Bloomberg

If you’ve been around for a number of years, the moment you start seeing the ALT booming again, a whole raft of new crypto currencies start to pop up and with the recent DeFi explosion it’s like everyday at the moment that someone has come up with another clever smart contract or approach to making cryptos actually work for you by holding it instead of just having it on an exchange or in a wallet.

Liquidity makes the world go around they say, certainly feels like javascript frameworks out there at the moment — every motherfucker in the universe is making one in their own image — still, keeps the speculation economy alive and well right? Can’t be bored in these times!

go pro hero 9 finally got it right for a great clogger camera?

GoPro’s new Hero 9 Black camera could be perfect for vlogging

nine versions down now, do we think that finally GoPro has got it right? I mean, they made a stack of money on the first versions and while they took some gambles here and there it looks like a lot of it has paid off, balls to the wall as some might say. I’m guessing they did pretty well out of this pandemic so far as people have been using them as ‘b roll’ cameras and for people taking holidays when they were allowed too.

I’m not sure that a colour screen is the most needed thing for vloggers, sure it helps to align the shot but let’s hope they have upgraded the software and the optics too. Have better cooling and more reliability is more that I’m interested in as a vlogger, not having cameras lock up because they are too hot is more interesting to me.

It’s still very much a foot race out there for someone to bring out that perfect, cost effective, portable, steady cam powered unit that fits that exact pricing point that everyone can be excited about, we have DJI just around the corner too I’m sure with their next generation camera and we are moving fast into the era where everyone is a creator because access will be just so cheap that everyone can get involved.

The vlogging stars of tomorrow are not even online yet, we are only seeing 10/15% of the world online actually getting involved and creating the content and the conversations that will shape our ever changing world, imagine the low latency satellite networks cover the planet and access is free or incredibly cheap — we all become nodes in the human network of planet earth.

the supply chains of the future are not afraid to pivot

The Supply Chain Of The Future Isn’t Afraid To Pivot

94% of Fortune 1000 companies have seen supply chain challenges and Before the pandemic, more than 5.8 billion endpoints were predicted to make up the intelligent IIoT ecosystem by the end of 2020

Not a stretch for me to believe that nearly every company in the fortune 1000 stock market was effected by supply chain issues, I mean we are talking about an unprecedented event that changed the way that we live our lives, we needed something if you think about it, the slow drum of climate change was not making us change our consumer ways, we were not forced to consider who and what we were doing until the fucking flour was missing from the shelves because cake makers were comfort eating their way through the troubling times.

It’s interesting to note the explosion that must be happening now, after the initial concerns of covid-19, during and now, today that are in place as we adapt to the so called ‘new norma’ — the way it’s going to be from now on, not going back, we can’t, that world has changed, the new dynamic way supplies chains have to operate has really made us look at building in those additional redundancies, it’s made us look about growing food from home, it’s made us consider what we eat, how we get involved and give back, how we can minimise our impact on the planet.

Supply chains have to do that too, they have to be able to spin on a sixpence when distribution lines get shut down because of natural disasters and when demand outstrips supply, while blockchain might not be the ‘revolution’ we expected financially for every single person it’s potential to help ‘track and trace’ to mobilise quickly and skirt around centralised business processes into utilising the nodes of a decentralised supply chain, we all have the ability to dial into that new future if we are present and read the data digital tea leaves on the daily.

Hope you enjoyed these five from today, keep present, keep alert to the way your world is changing on the daily, try and find your perfect place in all of those changes and be an inlet or upstream in a heavily dominated downstream world, take once, put back twice. It’s gonna take a global effect to maintain a planet worth living on together.
