There was no need to give an account number on the phone. Because, in case of return, money, source account (the account from which the payment was made), the account is supposed to be credited automatically).
When it comes to refunds after making an online payment on a trusted e-commerce site, never ask for an account number from an e-commerce site.
- The application called on the phone should not have been installed.
So, these dangers happen from time to time online. And the same thing can happen with recharging or money transactions.
As a precautionary measure,
A) The credentials of the site from which the recharge is being made should be checked. It is important to recharge from the original network provider's site or application without recharging from a third party site.
B) Card information should not be saved in the payment gateway.
C) Transactions should not be done from any device other than your trusted device (computer, mobile, tab etc.).
D) In case of online fund transfer, the account number to which the money is being sent should be checked. The person to whose account the money is being sent, uses his name correctly and if the account number is given incorrectly, the money will be credited to the wrong account.
Because, as per the instructions of the Reserve Bank, online fund transfer is done on the basis of account number, not name.
It is important to keep the login ID and password used in online transactions to yourself.
Such precautions may greatly reduce the risk of danger.
