Decidí incluir este post para poner de relieve la importancia de tomar unas precauciones mínimas antes de realizar cambios en la Tabla de Particiones GPT de un disco de sistema; son 5 minutos más de tarea que pueden ahorrar interminables horas de trabajo y no pocos disgustos.
En un entorno donde coexisten distintos Sistemas Operativos en la Tabla de Particiones GPT el instalar un nuevo SO no está exento de riesgos.
I decided to include this post to highlight the importance of taking minimal precautions before making changes to the GPT Partition Table of a system disk; It's 5 more minutes of homework that can save endless hours of work and quite a bit of disappointment.
In an environment where different Operating Systems coexist in the GPT Partition Table, installing a new OS is not without risks:

Los propios instaladores que manipulan las tablas de particiones por su cuenta -Solaris 11 es un "buen" ejemplo de esto-.
Por tanto recomiendo tomar las siguientes precauciones antes de empezar a instalar:
Realizar copia de seguridad de toda la información relevante que podáis tener. Si tenéis cosas importantes, como por ejemplo proyectos de programación con muchas horas dedicas, guardad la copia de seguridad en dos lugares diferentes, en un disco USB y en un almacenamiento en nube, por ejemplo.
Realizar copia de seguridad de la tabla de particiones, yo suelo tener dos copias, una en la partición dedicada a GRUB2 y otra en un pendrive.
Realizar capturas de pantalla del listado de la tabla de particiones antes de instalar, para comprobar que después de la instalación no han variado los sectores de inicio y fin de las particiones.
Si disponemos de una copia de la Tabla de Particiones GPT y durante la instalación se modifica por cualquier razón, podemos dejar las particiones como estaban antes de comenzar y probablemente no habrá grandes daños, aunque todo depende de la partición que se halla sobreescrito.
The installers themselves manipulating partition tables on their own - Solaris 11 is a "good" example of this.
Therefore I recommend taking the following precautions before starting to install:
Make a backup copy of all the relevant information you may have. If you have important things, such as programming projects that require many hours of work, save the backup copy in two different places, on a USB drive and in cloud storage, for example.
Make a backup of the partition table, I usually have two copies, one in the partition dedicated to GRUB2 and another on a pendrive.
Take screenshots of the partition table list before installing, to verify that after installation the start and end sectors of the partitions have not changed.
If we have a copy of the GPT Partition Table and during the installation it is modified for any reason, we can leave the partitions as they were before starting and there will probably not be major damage, although it all depends on the partition that is overwritten.

A la hora de configurar las particiones GPT, no puedo dejar de insistir en mi recomendación de dejar alrededor de 128 MB de espacio sin asignar entre particiones contiguas.
Con los tamaños de disco actuales este pequeño "desperdicio" de espacio queda sobradamente compensado por su utilidad; muchos instaladores modifican ligeramente los límites finales de las particiones, lo cual resulta desastroso si cada partición comienza en el sector inmediatamente siguiente a la anterior.
Por contra si entre particiones queda espacio sin asignar, un ligero cambio en la posición del final de la partición es totalmente inocuo.
When configuring GPT partitions, I cannot stress enough my recommendation of leaving around 128 MB of unallocated space between contiguous partitions.
With current disk sizes this small "waste" of space is more than offset by its usefulness; Many installers slightly modify the end boundaries of partitions, which is disastrous if each partition starts in the sector immediately following the previous one.
On the other hand, if there is unallocated space between partitions, a slight change in the position of the end of the partition is totally harmless.
