A SIM card is an integrated circuit chip that contains a secure International Mobile Customer Identification (IMI), a specific program that can be used to identify a network. And it has a small memory in which we store the phone numbers. It contains numerous semiconductors, resistors, transistors, etc., and is made of silicon.

The beginning of the SIM card -

The SIM card is the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM). The question is, who made this SIM card first? It is a little difficult to say who made the first SIM card. Because, the first SIM card was made by a German company. Who made the first SIM card of that company, it can not be said separately, right? The name of that German company is Giesecke & Devrient, abbreviated as Giesecke & Devrient. The company is headquartered in Munich, Germany. The world's first SIM card was also made there in 1991. However, the first company to buy their SIM card is not a German company. The Finnish company Radiolinza bought the first 300 SIM cards they made. Not only that, they also launched the world's first SMS (short message service) service in 1993. They also buy and download the first ringtone. That was in 1997. Those early SIM cards were not the same as they are now. At that time, each SIM card was in the shape of a debit / credit card now!

It is called full-size SIM card. The data storage capacity of the cards ranged from 32 to 128 KB. Where SMS messages and phonebook contact numbers could be saved. A total of 5 messages and 20 contact numbers could be stored in the first SIM models.

Later the size of the SIM card gradually became smaller. What we use is called a mini-SIM card. There are three more types of SIM cards smaller than this - micro-SIM card, nano-SIM card and embedded-SIM card. The size of the SIM card has become smaller as time goes by.

The Finnish company was called "Radiolinja" with a J, not Z... It's now part of Elisa Group...
