Why would a sane person buy and burn BYT? I don't care, but I also don't believe him/it.

Because I own BYT and I see this as a way to increase the value of my holding. Nobody is being forced to vote, but have the option to do so, and if they hold BYT they can then possibly increase the value of their own holding too.
