Blurt Curation Report - 8 April 2021

in blurtcuration •  4 years ago

The aim of Blurt Curation is to support all curators on Blurt, this includes both private initiatives and official community curators. Most importantly, it also supports those individuals who actually do the curating but who sometimes hide behind more prominent initiatives.

The new setup is that @BlurtCuration will continue to be managed by @rycharde, using a delegation from my witness account @busbecq. This means I can use the witness income to further improve the quality of content on Blurt.

Updates

@BlurtCuration had a delegation boost today, so is now up to 45,000 BP. One more delegation to move, so next week should see at least another 20k added.

Worth reading this article: Helping Blurt Curators and Communities in the Future. I hope we put in place a system whereby we can help those who help themselves first - not those who help themselves afterwards.

In light of that article, I would like to open up our own modest support to any communities within Blurt. These don't have to be curation-led, so long as there is a strong theme and an obvious community of more than one person.

I'm not sure why the Notification module has been removed from Blurt front-ends - it does make communication difficult as nobody can see when they are mentioned.

I am trying to make the list below more platform-independent, but Markdown does not process relative paths, so I may change the links into just the curation username. Pages don't like having dozens of tags, so will avoid that. I may end up using HTML as MD sucks.

New today are some more projects from @offgridlife: #BlurtArt and #BlurtCanada.

One concern I have about bloggers stuffing their tags with BlurtWhatever in the vain hope of more votes is that this does absolutely nothing to improve the site's search engine ranking. I guess such users care more about their trip to an exchanger than any long-term benefits to the platform, hence such a change in behaviour may have to be driven by the curators themselves.

The new entries above will be added to the main list below in the next post.

The aim of BlurtCuration is to support individual curators who improve the quality of posts on Blurt.
@BlurtCuration is managed by @rycharde with the support and delegation from my @busbecq witness.
You too can help by voting for my witness here.
